Wordpress Dominates The Website Market But The DIY Market Awakes

Word Press, still powers a huge chunk of the website builder market – about one in every six websites, totaling to more than 77 million sites. But many website builders now prefer easier drag and drop DIY solutions as setting up WordPress.org can be quite a technical chore for newbie’s and inexperienced users.

In a website builders analasys for 2014, it was discovered that WordPress’ closest neighbors (in terms of their valuation and user base) are Wix, estimated to be worth $750 million, and Weebly, worth $455 million. Together with Webs.com, these companies host a significant part of today’s web on their servers. The industry as a whole is the top 5% most Googled keyword on the web and growing. The drag and drop movement may end up being the biggest shift of all in my opinion. The DIY (do it yourself) option is a market the big companies are sure to be watching closely in 2015.

Since 2014, the technology available has changed, and website builders are more sophisticated. A site created using a website builder in 2014 does not look like a 2015 site at all. In fact, it can be as sophisticated now as a WordPress site. This is reflected in the soaring user numbers across many website builder brands, as well as a widespread adoption of site builders in business contexts and Blogs. Some website builders are aimed at the B2B Affiliate markets, and therefore benefit from healthy corporate buy-in and multi-tier adoption. This helps to increase the website user base very rapidly. As the market grows, the DIY website builders market will surly pressure the larger companies to compete in order meet market needs.

Thank you for sharing these important stat.

I agree. I have hosted/built my wife's physical therapy site on Weebly. I'm not yet convinced to switch it to Wordpress. People, including me, want an easy solution.

I tried Wix but had problems with it saving my work so I gave up and went to WP which I found hard to learn at first. I tried back I 2014 on the Wix and perhaps it is perfected now.

I had a learning curve to achieve with WP also and WA helped to get me over that curve, but some people, that are not WA members may not. Isn't that part of the reason reason for WA's teachings?

I think there's tons of room in drag and drop for bloatware, which might be attractive to advertisers... I find it contradictory for some WA members to have a WA Bootcampt site in Wix... Ok, so which one then?

What does this all mean. I am new to this online website building thing. I'm not sure I understand the meaning of this blog. Can you inhghtm me. please?

I only wanted to point out that the industry is changing. WA training is a guide that trains us but the website builder market is mush bigger and drag and drop is still a competitor.

Its of no relevence this discussion to this training --- you will be led step by step to create your website in wordpress / the best web creation tool there is

Thank you for your comments.

I've used Wix and Weebly and I think Word Press is much better. Anyway that's my opinion. The others just aren't that flexible.

I created websites on my own computer yrs --- still do / drag and drop PC programmes and upload ftp / They can look alright
