What’s In A Word?
When I was at work a couple of years ago, my boss gave me an assignment to write a blog about a system I was familiar with. Now the task in my lesson wants me to 'Create one blog post within Wealthy Affiliate'.
OK call me weird, call me crazy. I've been called much worse but the fact of the matter for me is that I find the word 'Blog' really disgusting!
How I got there, I haven't the foggiest idea, but this is a fact in my world. So, since I should create a blog for my lesson and the work I do here at WA, I'll try to be as objective about this as possible and maybe let my imagination run a little bit and learn something here.
I Googled the word and found this definition:
• A Blog is a regularly updated website or web page, typically one run by an individual or small group, that is written in an informal or conversational style.
• To Blog means to add new material to or regularly update a blog. "it's about a week since I last blogged"
Alright, this is what we're doing with our websites to create quality traffic.
We're (don't make me say it) Blogging!
I went to Wikipedia, the definitive storehouse of things I don't understand, and wanted to know the origins of this terrible word. Here what I found:
"The term "weblog" was coined by Jorn Barger on December 17, 1997. The short form, "blog", was coined by Peter Merholz, who jokingly broke the word weblog into the phrase we blog in the sidebar of his blog Peterme.com in April or May 1999."
Bad joke, Peter, very bad joke!
So, what do I have against the word 'Blog' after learning more about the word than I knew before?
I still don't know. Maybe it will take some intense $500 an hour psychoanalysis with some shock therapy thrown in to help me figure this out, but I'm not going to go there.
Instead, I'll just substitute the word 'Article’ or ‘Post’ for 'Blog'.
Trust me when I say you'll never hear me say:
I'm Blogging!

While I don't share your particular revulsion for the word . . . I don't say it much. It's not a pretty word. I use post or article when talking about 'it'.

Hi Bob, I am in total agreement with you. I prefer your substitutions or even the original weblog with the emphasis on web, (web log).
