Are Your Truly Doing What It Takes?
I've been trying to think of a suitable subject for my first post back. I've been hanging around on the fringes of the community over the last several months. I've been following many of you and reading your posts, but hadn't upgraded, for a number of reasons (another post for another day).
It’s funny…along the way you read hundreds of blog posts from about as many authors. If you’re lucky, some will strike a chord and you’ll read just about everything they write. Corbett Barr of Fizzle, is just one of those writers for me.
He wrote a blog post the other day, I keep rolling over in my mind, in an effort to apply it to Affiliate Marketing.
Corbett’s post can be found by Clicking Here.
In essence, his view is that those who become successful are those that are willing to lift those “Heavy-Ass Weights”. They’re the people who are willing to do whatever it takes to put in the time, effort and consistency to make it work. It’s those people who go above and beyond that ultimately become successful.
I wanted to make sure to do his blog post justice and pass along why I think his points are so key. In fact, I’ve done the same thing for Network Marketing on my OMSG site. The article is similar, but if you’re interested in a slightly different spin you can read my blog post here....
When we look at Affiliate Marketing as a whole, there is just tons of competition out there. You’ll find thousands upon thousands of sites that peddle every product imaginable under the sun.
So many of the people I deal with daily, get frustrated after throwing up a couple of sites and doing a few reviews then wonder to themselves…
- Well why aren’t people coming?
- Why am I not being successful?
- Where are all the sales?
Well the truth is, it takes a whole lot more than most people are willing to do, in order to become successful in this business. No matter what you read, there is no “easy button”. No mystical guru with a "super-secret system” to bring you riches…
If you haven’t figured it out yet, WAKE-UP…. It’s all a lie. Sorry, if that’s brutal… but it’s the truth.
One of the comments in Corbett’s blog talks about a locker room speech given by Al Pacino in the movie “Any Given Sunday”. You can see one version in the comments section of Corbett's post, or I imbedded the video on my other blog post here…
In that speech, one of the lines is “You find out that life is just a game of inches.” That line, to me absolutely sums up Affiliate Marketing completely.
Let me explain it this way. As you may or may not know, I come from a traditional martial arts background. Here is the way I tend to look at things and here’s how it applies.
Everyone starts out as a “white belt” knowing nothing or certainly almost next to nothing. Over the years, through time, effort and consistent training they may arrive at a point where they earn a “black belt”. It’s only after years of effort however that this happens.
So many people see that black belt as the final destination. In reality, what most people don’t realize, is that all a black belt really means, is that you now know enough about the basics, that you can truly begin to train. The black belt is really the beginning of the journey, not the destination at all.
In fact, truth be told, the longer I train in the martial arts, the more I realize how truly little I know. There are so many things to learn. So many lessons waiting for me yet. It truly is “the journey of a lifetime”.
Affiliate Marketing is very much like this as well. You apply yourself to your craft. You learn about the various ways to promote. You take you lessons here at the Wealthy Affiliate and as time goes along, you’ll be able to apply these lessons in new and exciting ways. Ultimately, you’re going to find things that work for you and some that don’t.
The key to all of this though, will be your desire to continue to lift the “Heavy-Ass Weights” as Corbett puts it. You need to strive to continue to take what you learn here at the Wealthy Affiliate, apply it and continue taking action. You goal needs to be to progress your business inch-by-inch every day.
It’s not about overnight success and it will never be easy. In the end however, if you are truly passionate about what you are doing, it will be rewarding. Take the lesson from Corbett’s silver lining:
“Learn to love lifting heavy-ass weights and the results will come.”

Excellent food for thought. I built a website before I came to WA. I did everything wrong, but I put in a lot of work. After 6 months I started making sales. I now have a new website. A niche website with all the WA suggestions, bells and whistles, but I know it will still take time to get traffic and sales. Yes, it is all about doing the heavy lifting. Thanks!
Thanks so much for the feedback... I'm glad you have that perspective and are in a position now where you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. So many in this industry cant... Unfortunately so many give up without ever truly doing the work...
