Resolution Versus Reflection or Both

Now that the New Year has come to an end, It is usual for the element of resolution to be given greater prominence in the lives of many people around the world. For my part, I trust that the result of my reflection on the past year, will be kind enough to motivate me to make the resolution to continue my efforts here, for improved financial freedom.

About this time in 2016, I resolved to expand my small 'from home' venture, but by about the middle of the year, I abandoned a part of the idea when I bought into doing business here at at WA. Thankfully, up to now I have no real regret. It has not surprised me that studies have shown that most people do not usually keep their New Year resolutions. I believe that for resolutions to survive, it must be nurtured by deep reflections. Such reflections may lead to resolution change like in my case, given the nature of life and the process of reflection.

Reflection is a necessary tool in our lives. It is the breaking down of our experiences into parts to see what works and why, coupled with what doesn't work and why - so we can understand the dynamics at work. It is then that we can correctly discern our mistakes, other short comings, and take action for success. There is satisfactory research which indicates that the process of reflection gives rise to greater performance - a view supported by the renowned American philosopher and educational reformist, John Dewey who asserts "We do not learn from experiences, we learn from reflecting on experiences". It is my firm belief that getting in the habit of serious reflection at the end of each day, and not necessarily at the end or beginning of a year could yield greater benefits.

Here's wishing for all of us here at WA community, a meaningfully reflective 2017, followed by a resolve for improved business actions and success.

I hope you'll gain something of value from the read, guys.

Sheila.

I never known about self-reflection that like "talk to yourself" method, make you understand your feeling and teach yourself.

You're right, Nattawut, we look back at ourselves, especially our actions, behaviours, etc.

Thanks for this post.

Hi Beatrice, you're welcome, thank you.

Thanks, both are essential for both the body and spirit for guidance in life's journey. Man is never left without help, but only few do take advantage of it, because the body is too
preoccupied with earthly ventures to hear the still small voice of the spirit.

Hi Lanu, I totally agree, thanks for reading.

That is profound Sheila observation combined with reflection works for mee and not being too hard on one's self works for me.

Thanks for taking the time, I appreciate your view, Alexander.

Happy New Year

Thank you, Vytautas, here's wishing you the very same.

Thank you Sheila. Cheers, William
