Almost Coded!
I almost coded today. It was pretty hectic. No, I didn't nearly die - had you going there didn't I?
Here's what really happened....
I am working on a site for a friend called Betty. It is a pay it forward thing for me, which if it takes off would mean Betty could pay it forward too. And boy does she have big pay it forward type dreams!
So, anyway, it is a shop style website. Betty makes flipping fantastic table cloths and place mats, oven gloves and pot holders, ironing board covers and laundry bags, and, amongst a heap of other things, she makes a spectacular padded and waterproof backed picnic blankets. She usually lugs her Fabric Creations around in a bag, going from door to door trying to sell. But there is only so far you can go without a car, only so far you can lug a heavy bag, and only so many table cloths, place mats and oven gloves you can sell to the same people over and over again.
The last time she popped past I bought an ironing board cover (which she custom designed for my oversized ironing board) and one of her kickass picnic blankets. And then I got a little crazy and suggested that I could fix a website up for her, get her wider exposure for her wares. Crazy because I don't know so much about this stuff. Crazy because I have got all the help I need to do this thing right here at WA.
I asked for help today! And I got it - I didn't use it, but I got it.
I am using the Eshop Wordpress theme with the Woocommerce plugin which comes with British pound as the default currency. I need it to be good old ZAR. So I did some research. Found Woocommerce docs and started reading. Next thing I know my head is spinning with code snippets and "just tack this snippet in here and change that and this and there you go".
I was transported straight back to the day my first (and only) computer science teacher said, loudly and in front of the whole class, "Bridget, promise me you'll never touch computer code again!" This as he stared despairingly at my pathetic attempt to code a simple winking smiley face...
So I came here and asked for help. You can read about that here:
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/website-developmen...
(Ali-M very kindly laid it out step by step. I still couldn't have figured it out though - I just kind of freeze when it comes to the coding stuff)
But while I was waiting on a reply I was staring at my dashboard thinking surely someone would have simplified this currency setup thing by now. I mean, WP and its plugins are supposed to be click and drag and drop type things designed for technophobes like me after all.
And that's when I saw the woocommerce setup wizard. And decided to go ahead and do the setup while I wait for a reply. And that's when I discovered that you can set your desired currency in the setup wizard..... So I nearly coded but didn't!

This is a great post. I do this sometimes as well. With help, I work through something, but I not at all sure I can duplicate what I have done.
