20 days and working on website
Wow! I am learning sooooooooo much from WA members.
I've started working on my website about hydroponics. I've always been interested in gardening, however, the soil I have to work with is not very rich in nutrients and there is not much actual soil around the house. This makes gardening a challenge.
I've developed some way I can cultivate plants, however, without the soil. You may have heard about hydroponics.
OK, Hydroponics gets a Bad Rep
You've probably heard about hydroponics because a lot of those "wacky" California folks use it to grow their marijuana, but not me.
You'd be surprised how much more productive your vegetable garden would be when you get the plants out of the ground and work with a nutritional solution. They are much more productive and can be grown year round (taking care to be inside, under lights, in the winter).
Fewer Pest Problems
One of the reasons plants grow so well with hydroponics is that they are not attacked by many of the standard pests. Most insects that thrive on garden plants live in the soil. When you take soil out of the equation, the number of insects that eat on the plants is dropped dramatically.
Voila! No need for pesticides to kill the insects.
This, in itself, doesn't make these plants organic, however, it does make them much more productive and you are not applying poisons to the plants to kill the bugs.
You can tell I'm excited about what I want to share with others, now I have to continue with the website production.
Help from within WA
I've gotten some great help, here within WA. I knew I wanted to talk about a lot of different things on my website. It was easy to start the pages.
After asking for some review from other members, I have learned more about creating menus on my website instead of cluttering the home page with so many separate pieces of information.
My most recent challenge is getting the amazon links to show properly on the website. I've got a great mentor in MINDwell who is helping me with that issue.
That's the main reason I joined WA . . . the community. Everyone here seems so genuine in their interest to help a new person.
I'm learning at my own pace and getting help along the way. Great group!

The first time I heard about hydroponics was from a "wacky grower" in Michigan. I was under the impression that growers used this only for marijuana. Then I started seeing gardeners use it for their vegetables. The best tomatoes and romaine I have ever eaten was from a gardener who used hydroponics. This stuff is so amazing I am glad its available and can be used for growing anything!
