Favorite search items - do you have any?

Not only do we have a fabulous catalogue of tutorials and posts and comment threads that we can follow, but we can also manage them. I mentioned in a previous post that I love using the search bar. I've only just discovered that I can also bookmark items that I can go back to time and again.

It's very mch like adding a page of a website to a folder that we have on our browser. I often go back to items that I have searched for previously and don't always remember how or where I found it. Even if I do remember a keyword, the search function doesn't always bring up ALL the items for that keyword. A way around this dilemma is to add the items that are going to be of use later on to a favorites folder.

Adding folders

When you find an item that you like click on the star to the right of it and a window will open with the option to "Add Tag". Enter a category like "Gogetters" and this item will be included in the folder. Do this whenever you come across something that you want and save it for later.

Next time you want to look for this simply click on the star to the right in the search bar and all your "tagged" items will appear in their respective folders.

How to remove them?

If you no longer want any items, you can type in the title of the item in the search bar and it will appear with a yellow star next to it. Just unclick the star and it will be removed from the list. This way you won't have any unnecessary links that you are not going to be needing any longer.

Hope you find this useful for future reference.

All the best,

Brian

I just started doing this yesterday. Thanks for the reminder.

Hi Bien, glad you are able to make use of it.

All the best,

Brian

Hi Brian, yeah I did because I always look for something and I thought about that yesterday to add all I needed in the favorites. Thanks again. Same to you, All the best!

I added the tag but it's not showing up in the respective folder.

Hi Yvonne, when you find a search item that you want to save, click on the yellow star next to it. When it asks you to add the tag select the one (tag) that you want the post to be saved to. If you don't have a tag for it you can add one and it will be saved to that one.

When you go to your search bar and click on the star it will bring up the items that are saved in the different tag folders. Play around with it and you'll get the feel of it quite quickly.

Let me know if you are still stuck and I'll try to help.

Brian

This is what shows up when I try to bookmark a post. I didn't see the option to add a tag. I realise now that it only works when I search for an item from the search bar and bookmark from there.

Looks like you got that sorted out nicely. Hope you enjoy using this feature.

Brian

Isn't that really cool, I discovered this feature only a week or so ago. Some posts I just know I am going to use in the future but just now I am not in a position to use them.

Click the star, no tag and it's there for me to recover at any time!

These guys have thought of so much and are bringing new things in for us to use as well!

Excellent post Brian!!

Wayne

I'm discovering all these great features everyday. Love it! Can't wait for the new layout that's coming.

All the best,

Brian

Thank you for this very useful information.

Hi Linda, love to share these interesting things that I am finding out.

All the best,

Brian

Thank you. this saves a lot of time!

Hi Thomas, it is certainly a timesaver. I use it so often, it was worth finding out the full functionality of it.

All the best,

Brian

Amazing. I have been a WA member for long enough and believe it or not, have never used this function, mainly because for some reason I just wasn't aware of it. It just shows, there's always something new to learn around here. Thank you Brian.

~Mark :)

Hi Mark, there is a goldmine of little nuggets tucked away here. This has become a treasure hunt to me. I'll definitely share any new things that I find out. (Probably old hat to some, but great fun for the newbs.)

All the best,

Brian

Kind of a duel purpose, nice Brian, I use my note pad to keep websites of information on there and have title at end of string. Thanks for sharing, Things To Remember

Thanks, Reese. Now you can use this in addition to your notepad. I must say, I also like to put pen to paper as well.

All the best,

Brian

Thanks, Brian.
