Covid 19 is a blessing
I was inactive for the past two weeks because I was infected by the dreaded covid 19 virus. I did not expect to catch it because I was very extra careful in following health protocols.
However because of my constant exposure to people I was not able to avoid it.But my symptoms are not that severe. I had fever and flu and the next thing I know I lost my sense of smell and taste.
Instead of sulking in self-pity and worrying, I looked for the positive in a negative situation, thus title " Covid 19 is a blessing" in my experience.
What are the valuable lessons I learned from this experience?
Be thankful for what you have.
When I was looking at the flowers while getting my morning sunlight, it dawned on me how precious are my senses of smell and taste. I said to myself, I will enjoy the remaining three senses for I don't know when will I regain my other two.
I looked at the beautiful flower, the dead petals scattered on the ground. They are so vibrant and appealing to the eyes. It's my first time to really appreciate something very common.
Then I felt the soft sunlight caressing my skin. The cool September breeze gently blowing my hair. In the background are the chirping birds on top of the trees.
I have the gift of experiencing this everyday but it took covid 19 to jolt me to reality that the happiness, joy and peace we are all seeking for are just around us always.
We are busy doing many things we thought will bring us happiness. Imagine I was not able to smell the flowers but I learned to appreciate them. I just passed by them every day without really considering the joy they can bring.
When I lost my sense of taste everything I eat taste the same. No flavor at all. I also lost my appetite because I cannot differentiate the taste of steak from vegetable. They looked differently but taste the same. Bland.
This reminds me how I ate mindlessly in the past. This time I made a promise to myself that I will savor every food I eat. I will taste every flavor any food I could afford to eat because time will come that I cannot appreciate event the tastiest food on earth.
I experienced out pour of Love and affection
The day my result came in I received many text messages and calls from people I did'not even know. They are so worried and extended their well wishes and prayers for my fast recovery.
I tried to keep it a secret to avoid panic to my congregation but the news spread like a wild fire.
This illness revealed my value as a person and impact I have for other people .This is unknown to me.
Groceries, foods, fruits and even medicines are left on our door on a daily basis. Good Samaritans did'not even put their names on the package they brought.
Anonymous numbers keep on sending messages about how I touched their lives through my weekly preaching and they are praying for my fast recovery because they need me.
I never thought that I have that kind of influence to other people. It boosted my self-esteem and It gave me more determination to keep on doing what I was doing for the people, .
WA family always take good care of yourself and be extra careful. Remember that God can twist any negative situation to our favor in case you are now in a very difficult condition
The worst we think is never the worst. You can always get positive from a negative situation.
I love you all.

Hi Brian
Thank you for sharing your experience here. It is so important for us to be grateful for what we do have and so easy for us to focus on what we don't. I appreciate the time you have taken to remind us.
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.
Blessings always
Louise
Hello Louise,
Thank you for your time reading the article and giving such an insightful comment.
I also appreciate your well wishes for me.
God bless you my friend.
Brian
Thank God Brian you are doing much better, of course here in WA we are so close and yet so far, cause if you did not write this post, no one would have never known.
People go and come, and often when you haven't seen someone post or comment, we take it for granted that maybe they no longer want to bother with WA, which is further from the truth.
I do understand your gratitude for life, we never know what we got until we no longer have it. Continued keeping well and praises to our higher power from now on. My prayer is with you for full recovery. God's blessings.
Elizabeth
Thank you for your kind words Elizabeth. I just want to share my story to inspire and let other members realize the positive attitude we all need to posses when things are not going to our preferred way.
Your prayers and good wishes are greatly appreciated.
Have a blessed day my friend.
Thank you for sharing this. ou are so right in that we really do take the simple pleasures in life for granted. I will be paying more attention to this world around me and smell the flowers, hear the birds, feel the suns warmth on my skin. Thanks you for this remeinder that it can all be taken from us in an instant. Time for me to be more grateful. Take care my friend.
Thank you so much for the encouraging words my friend. I'm happy that my message communicates well with you.
Have a blessed day.
I would be careful to call Covid 19 a blessing.
Although I know where you are coming from, you might have a hard time to explain your newfound joy for life to somebody who lost a friend or family member to the disease.
Just imagine how an affected WA member would receive your blog?
Once your words are out they take on their own meaning. Every reader will look at them from their perspective and your words could turn into something you didn't intend. Nevertheless, they are yours - you are responsible for them.
Be clear what you want to say to avoid misunderstandings.
Get well soon.
Martin
Hello Martin,
I respect your opinion. But If you read my post carefully, I was talking about my experience as a covid 19 infected person.
Experiences may vary based on the severeness of the infection. I know also that many lives were lost because of the virus. But I was talking about my experience not someone else's.
I also lost someone because of this disease so I know the pain.
Sorry If you took my article in a different perspective. If you find it irresponsible, that's your take on it.
Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Brian,
When I first saw your title for your article, I asked myself how can Covid 19 be a blessing? But by reading your article, I could see the "blessing" in the form, "I don't want this but nothing I can do about it philosophy showed me how you take a negative thing and turn into a positive thing.
Well done, Brian!
Bill
Thank you for the time you spent reading and understanding the whole article. That's exactly the message I want to convey.
