Have Fun Learning 8: When Not to Use a Picture
As many of you probably know I have done two tutorials on where to find free pictures for you to use on your websites. Matter of fact I just published a third tutorial today that shows you how to find licensing information for free images found on Google that you need for giving attribution, see link below.

But in this blog post I just want to inform you of a mistake I have seen a few members do here with their websites. Though this mistake is mainly done by newbies, it could also be made by more seasoned members should they not pay attention to detail.
THESE PICTURES ARE NOT FREE TO USE
I was recently reviewing a WA Review on a new member's website and a picture of a bunch of hands giving the thumbs up was used near the end of the review. This picture is shown above. Can you see what the problem is?
Any picture/image that has a watermark across the front of it cannot be used. You would have to pay for this picture/image in order to use it and once you do the watermark would be removed.
Now I can understand why some people might think this picture is free to use. When you go to some Free Picture resource websites like Pixabay, they will display these Shutterstock pictures along the top of their free pictures, see below image.
Just because it appears on the Pixabay screen DOES NOT mean it is free and the watermark across the front should be a big indicator of that. Watermarks are used for that exact purpose, to tell people that the image is not free without permission & payment.

THEN THERE ARE SIGNS THAT REALLY NEED TO BE EXPRESSIVE FOR THOSE TOO DUMB TO UNDERSTAND THE DANGERS OF THEIR ACTIONS

Great post. It reminded me there used to be a cafe in my hometown called "The Ever Open Cafe" but it wasn't always open.
