Marketing is like quilting
I decided today that I was going to work on my son’s quilt, after all, he’s been waiting for it for years now. Anyways it is a star quilt, and it is my first time making a star quilt. I kept looking at the picture and I would feel a little intimidated. Finally in December I said to myself “just go for it, or else he will never get the damn thing”.
There is still a lot more sewing to do, for now i must make the star, as i was piecing the strips together to make part of the star, i kept thinking to myself,” it doesn’t seem right, it looks to darn skinny, i know he’s a skinny kid, but his star doesn’t have to be skinny”, i read the instructions and re measured…everything was as it was suppose to be, but how come the whole sewing it together is not that easy?
It turned out that the my perception of the width was not the same as the author’s perception, in fact if i would have taken the time to STUDY the diagram, i would’ve known the right width. So now I am left with strips of the wrong size, now i have to really think outside the box to get this quilt looking like a star quilt. Maybe this will be as Bob Ross would say “A Happy Accident”.
I know for some that having a website may look intimidating, but once you get in there and explore, you will find that it’s not that bad, and before you know it, you will be installing plug ins, posting your blogs, adding pics and videos, installing and deleting pages, changing your themes, adjusting colors and sub niches.
The tricky part comes to marketing, we all have our own ideas of marketing, and if your anything like me, you will learn the hard way, but thats ok, you just need to be teachable and open minded and that may mean you have to go back and review internet marketing.
There is all kinds of marketing out there, traffic exchanges, safelists, article writing, blogging, free and paid ads, banners, link exchanges. The problem is we all have our own ideas in what works. They all work, some work better then others in different niches. And sometimes… you have to get creative… thats ok too because you will now humble yourself and keep an open mind, and who knows, maybe you will learn a thing or two, even better, you may make a sale or two!
To Happy Quilting…ahhmm, I mean Too Happy Marketing

you bet, its both exciting and scary, but its important just to go for it, and get it started and soon you will get a better idea on how things should be.
Nice comparison! I don't sew or quilt, but I know it takes time, organization skills, before you start the project and during the project and finally, you complete the project. Much as one starts a website or business, grows the site or business, and hopefully, in the end, makes money with the business. Enjoyable post!
We try not to promote to other members. We are all here to learn and share with others but using this as a platform to sell is against the rules.
Feel free to share links to your site for review or other things that are non-promotional. Many times I will link to TED presentations. These are for member edification and are not promotional.
I found their rules, it took me awhile, totally get it, but that was not why i was doing it, just thought i would kill two birds with one stone by posting a blog on my original website and get a link to it too ;)
but i think they would consider that under their sneaky sneak rule, *giggles
But in all seriousness, does not having the same article on two different sites hurt your ranking?
Good Stuff, just be careful; there are agents on here pretending to be members who will hit spam button. They don't want us promoting anything within blog chat links but this site. Hum, go figure. I like your article.
Oh i did not know that, i saw another member do it, so i thought it was ok. Thank you for the heads up and the like.
