Hi,
I just Googled patent application information and found the following toll-free phone number you can call and here it is: 1-866-844-6512. The name of the company is Invention Home. Give them a call to determine if your idea should be patented.
Good luck!
I'd be looking at almost $4000 to get everything up and running, patent search, protection, and creating prototype. then we would get 80% royalty fees, and that company gets the other 20%. the first 20% they get they give back to us ( reimburse), for paying the 4000 dollars. does that sound good?
Maybe a patent lawyer could help. Also, if you have small business administration offices in your area, they may be able to answer your questions.

I am currently building a prototype for an invention I have come up with and my brother is currently trying to patent one of his own. What I can tell you is, you have to determine if you are going to make enough money to justify a patent. My brother believes he will, so he said yes to it. I will not make that much (estimating $100,000 tops) so it is not worth it to me to patent. You can go to uspto dot gov for info on patents. The patent will cost about $10,000.00. The fee scedule is:
Filing a provisional application. ( More information ) $125
Filing a non-provisional application. ( More information ) Approximately $625
Non-electric filing fee (applications filed in paper) Additional $200
Issue fee Approximately $870
Maintenance fees:
Due at 3 1/2 years Approximately $565
Due at 7 1/2 years Approximately $1,425
Due at 11 1/2 years Approximately $2,365
So 125
870
565
1425
+2365
=5350
This does not include patent attorney fees. This is just for the patent. I would make sure you know exactly what you are getting with that $4000 as far as the patent is concerned. It may just be the the application and issue fee. You would then have to pay the maintenence fees described above. Good luck. Dream big.
I-Yi-Yi, no wonder people dont invent things anymore, to darn expensive!!
the guy from invention home said it was 399 for the patent search, +625 for a patent protection (patent pending, i think he mentioned here), + 999-2999 to create a virtual prototype. Then they market to their "friends" or companies that they are in agreement with at invention homes cost,( they have some packages made up with how well they can create the prototype). Then they said once all is well, they reimburse me the upfront costs, i get 80% royalty fees and they get 20%.
To be honest with you, i have NOOOO CLUE what all of this is about or what to expect thats why the plea for help. and i never thought of how much i could make... more to think on. thank you
