THINK FOR YOURSELF

What is thinking? It is comparing a particular idea (a datum) with what is known and observed of other data in the same subject in the physical universe . There are two methods of learning, authoritarian method and observed and evaluated method. The first is where you read or hear something and just accept it, it's on the order of "somebody said...". The other is where you actually make the information your own by evaluation and observation. Example would be: "Kyle said ... and so that is why you do it." That would be Authoritarian acceptance. The other would be, "Kyle said... and I tried that idea, several times in fact, at first it didn't seem to work. I noticed I left out a crucial part, made corrections and found out by experience that indeed the advice worked." That would be a personal evaluation, application and observation of results based on my own action. Therefore the data becomes my own working data.

When you are told NOT to take anyone's word as "law", you are being asked to break a habit pattern forced upon you when you went to school. "Johnny, 3 plus 5 equals 8, got that!?" If Johnny is smart he'll counter, "How do I know that's true?" Well, only Johnny can answer that, someone else cannot do Johnny's thinking for him. If he just obediently accepts that - "Yes teacher." - he is confessing that "I cannot think for myself." Sadly, there are a lot of Johnnies who were taught that way.

Any person who accepts knowledge without questioning it and evaluating it for himself is demonstrating himself to be in apathy toward that sphere of knowledge. Apathy is a sad state of affairs, it means "I give up, I cannot think and I cannot do anything." To get out of apathy on any subject what you have to do is observe and evaluate data. The result one works toward is "does it work" and "did I do it correctly".

Indecision as to "is this true or is this false" and not evaluating the data is an authoritarian mindset. This is fatal when it comes to creating something new. So you can say that information (data) is your data only so long as you have evaluated it for yourself. If you can't apply it then the information is not yours, it is unevaluated data as far as you are concerned.

This is true for any subject. Learning how to market and sell products or services on the internet works the same way. You have to find out what works and what doesn't work - for you. How does a professional athlete get to be a professional athlete - practice, practice, practice. That's the price one has to pay to get the results. Thomas Edison tried over 12,000 experiments before he discovered the right way to create the light bulb. So any advice should be "study the data with the purpose of making your own conclusions, is the data correct and workable. And if it doesn't work for you then it's not true for you." And if you have honestly done the work and something doesn't work, forget that advice and find something else to test until you find something that works for you - just like Edison.

Take the time and make the effort of making an honest examination of what is offered at WA, on your own terms and by your own observation and application. Study it, question it, and use it and you will then have discovered something for yourself. What is offered is not workable just because someone said so - prove it to yourself and form your own opinion based on actual experience.

I know the Thomas Edison quote gets reused and it has become quite cliche, but the truth is evident for anyone who has every achieved success at something. In fact, success resides in all of us...

We all fall off a bike at one time, we got back up, moved on and continued trying until we got it.

We all have failed a test in our lifetime, we got up, learned from our mistakes and were better because of it.

However, for some reason when it comes to our own success we let a failure get us down and many of us are reluctant to "get up". If that is you, make a conscious effort next time you fail to get up, move and and be "better" as the result. It is your only true path to success to learn how to fail.

KYLE, Interesting that you focused on my throw away comment that many could possibly relate to and not the actual point of making the training information one's own information so that they can use the training effectively. If someone, including me, just accept your training and do nothing, do not apply it for themselves, then the training would be useless - to them. The point was - apply the training, then apply it again and again until one knows it works for themself.
However, I really appreciate that you took the time to reply. I wrote this as much for myself as for anyone else. Thanks Kyle.

Yeah, I knew what you are saying I just wanted to emphasize that as we grow older we lose ambition and the idea that we can accomplish anything...but when we are younger we feel that we can do anything. This is the point I wanted to make and one of the reasons why people never end up taking action is because they fear that they cannot succeed...which is something that is engrained in us over time and is something that we should not let affect us.

Great post! Some good advice.
