Failure Is Inevitable - Stand Up Comedy & WA part lll
Inspired To Inspire
Each time I sit down at WA, read a blog, have a question, move forward, get stuck, etc, there seems to be something with internet marketing and stand up comedy that is similar. The similarities seem endless. Almost as if comedy and internet marketing are one in the same.
I was inspired to write this blog after reading another WA members profile, earlier today. To sum it up, it was about taking chances and the fears that come with it.
You're A Comedian
Imagine you're about to step on stage the very first time to tell jokes. The spotlight is gleaming in your eyes, and you have a microphone that will enable the hundred or so pairs of eyes staring back at you, to hear you loud and clear.
If you're imagining a terrifying moment, you'd be correct. The unknown is about to take place. And this last for months at a time.
I can't tell you how many times I was the next comedian to step on stage, and as I stood there, I'd ask myself over and over, "How can I get out of this?" I was next, standing at the curtain waiting to be announced, and all I wanted to do was run like the wind in the opposite direction.
Getting on stage for the first year in comedy is torture. You're not funny. Nobody laughs at your bad jokes. You sweat, tremble with fear, and just can't WAIT for it to be over. You feel like its a complete failure.
So why in the world do we continue to do it?
Because we know somewhere down the line, all this suffering and work you put into it, without getting paid a penny, will come together and be successful. You're not sure how or why or when. Some comics start headlining within 5 years. For others, it could take 10. And for others, even longer.
But you know it WILL happen, because those successful comics before you, tell you that's how it is. If you keep doing it and following the steps, you'll eventually be funny enough to headline.
How did you feel when you first joined WA? Scared? Overwhelmed? Lost? Confused?
If you're still just a few months in, are you putting in the work and seeing little to no results?
Then why are you continuing to do this?
Because those successful before us tell us if we keep doing it, following the steps, it will pay off. We don't know how or why or when. But we know it will.
If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, impatient, or anything that comes along with the frustrations of online marketing, just know, all this torture will one day be rewarded in great measures.
My first year in comedy, I couldn't wait to get off the stage.
Today, there is no better feeling in the world, than standing on it.

You can find video clips of my comedy at my website listed to the left on my profile. That site was built prior to joining WA. It is not used for monetization.

Thank you for this article Stephen, very true, everything takes time and patience, but it will pay off! We have a choice, to take action or to do nothing, so there is only one way, take action can be patient! All the best Stephen with your efforts, Roy.
