Thoughts On My Success and Thank You WA

I'm being given a chance to share my progress so far with everyone who wants to see how someone else is doing. I am a 67-year-old grandmother and I did not grow up in the internet age. I was of the generation that helped design and refine it into something that every generation after us can use and enjoy. I hope future generations make it a primary goal to use it wisely and responsibly.

I have always felt that I was too old to learn all the tricks of computer use and that I would be the vanguard for keeping alive the 'old ways' before the internet mania. I have always felt sad when we as a culture fail to remember where we came from. So many of our present woes are due to the fact that we do not read history and we do not remember its lessons. It is always good to know on whose shoulders we stand. Be that as it may and that understood, I have now been a grandmother for 3 years and there is nothing I want more than to know the world my beautiful little granddaughter is going to grow up in.

I have too often been in conversations with nieces and nephews and even my daughter who are polite and courteous, but who try not to feel embarrassed when my eyes glaze over as they explain all that they have been learning about computers and social media. I have so often wished I could hold my own in those conversations. Though I still try to explain to them the virtues of a pre-computing world, I am rapidly gaining an eager interest in this amazing method of reaching out to the entire world.

So, after jumping through a few hoops with companies who assumed that I knew more than I did about reaching out to the world through internet marketing, I, with great luck, was able to find Wealthy Affiliates. They were the program of step by step instruction that I was so very much looking for. I don't know how they do it. One of the most controversial topics, I think, about any kind of business ethics is, "do I sell the knowledge I have, or do I give it away?" I am of the philosophy that it should be given away. Wealthy Affiliates are the only internet marketing company who I believe feel that way too.

I have gotten farther along in creating the website of my dreams in one month with WA than I had in nearly a year with my previous marketing company and I paid a lot more for the privilege of learning nothing compared to what I have learned through WA. I think it is false to believe that our intellectual capacity for learning is limited. I think we are limitless in our ability to understand, make connections, apply what we learn. I really think it is limitless and the more we share what we learn with one another, I think, the faster we will progress as human beings needing to work and live together in a society. I think that the reason we have wars and gangs and violence of all kinds is because our individual creativity is locked up inside with very little places for it to go.

I think the internet marketplace is a wonderful way and place, even for a grandmother like me (with WA's help) to create, express and hopefully make a living at (because this is important) sharing what we experience and learn throughout our lives.

I have gone from having a seedling of an idea for a niche but completely unorganized about the process of getting it published and shared to:

  1. setting up a website
  2. deciding on a niche based on my passion
  3. writing and refining the content of my niche's theme
  4. getting feedback on that content
  5. adding pictures to that content
  6. learning how to get that content ranked on search engines
  7. writing and refining some more
  8. publishing the content
  9. helping others even though I am just a newbie myself

And as I continue to use the techniques and tools, question and answer forums at my disposal I am on the precipice of learning how my own creativity, that comes from inside me, may be of some financial value to someone else. For most of my life, I have resisted the great emphasis the world puts on the financial value of something and have wanted to concentrate only on its artistic or social or cultural or religious value.

However, as I think of my granddaughter growing up I realize how much I want her to be financially comfortable and there is nothing wrong with that. In fact, there never has been anything wrong with discovering the financial worth of one's own hard work and creativity. And if, as I suspect, given the concerns of the possibility of corruption in the industry, as there is in any industry, internet marketing can help people to understand their creativity and work hard to get that creative work to the world, there is nothing wrong with receiving financial gain from the value that that creativity gives to someone else.

I am struggling with the social media side of WA, sharing in answering questions, finding the appropriate place to get my questions answered, but I am beginning to realize that is only because I have little or no previous experience with social media of any kind. It is not due to WA running of their social media sites. In fact, I am certain that WA will be the only way that I will be able to come out of my comfort zone and become fluent with the use of social media to help my business grow and to help me grow as a person.

I don't mind admitting that I am not fluent and comfortable with social media. I think it comes with a concern I have always had on how my actions are affecting other people. This is another thing that passion internet marketing can help us to learn about. Feedback on how what we put out there effects those who engage with it. This model should never be taken for granted. It is a potential world changing model.

Please use it wisely and responsibly. And thank you WA for making it so very accessible to so many of us who would never have access.

Peace.

Beth

This is absolutely awesome Beth!

It's great to hear how far you have come in the short time you have been here. As you continue through the training you will continue to learn more and grow your website more each day that you work on it.

I struggled with social media when I first started here as well. It comes pretty easily now. Think of it like another advertising platform to get more traffic to your site.

If you aren't comfortable using social media just yet, then wait until you are. You can always come back to it later. Thank you so much for sharing your success you've had so far with WA.

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions or need my help.

Beth, I completely identify with what you have written. Being a "more mature" lady myself I too have struggled with social media (I don't even like the telephone!). I still remember the training that said "now go and post a comment" ... It was one of the most difficult things to do! But I did and now I do, and it gets easier, and with such a positive attitude I am sure you will only go from strength to strength. Thank you :)

Thanks Carol for your kind comments,
I will be looking for your experience shares as you reach out to the world and they reach back. I will share what I experience when I do finally do something that warrants an experience. My only concern is that with my social media skill level I may not be able to find you again.
Until we meet again, all the best.
Beth

Dear Mrs. Haran,

First and foremost, congratulations on your beautiful website, It is really nice and well organized. That is an accomplishment on itself, however, what is most valuable in your site is the quality of your writing.

I am a foreigner. In fact, English is the fourth language I learned in life. I would never be able to judge the quality of one's writings the same way a native speaker would. What, I can sense and feel without any problems, are the emotions and the wisdom that can only be achieved through a life RICH in experiences and memories.

I am new into this community, completely inexperienced in Internet Marketing, and such as you, one that doesn't really deal with social media that well. In my case, a matter of upbringing, as I was always taught to be first courteous, reserved and above all polite.

These days, I sometimes question these values, their true VALUE and find myself asking if they have made me too passive or if I should try to change to adapt to a far more competitive and to some extent "Aggressive" environment.Being as it may, these are the values I have ingrained in my DNA, so I will carry them for life.

Social media has an incredible power but it is also a two edge sword. It can be brilliant but also very detrimental. Regarding Marketing, yes it is a great tool, but one that we should use wisely.

Not being fluent in this very particular tool and language brings limitations. I noticed that When I say that I don't have private tweeter or facebook accounts people are widely surprised. I have just recently set up accounts for tweeter, facebook and pinterest.

So, you are not alone. Your skills are precious. Regardless how the world has moved towards this new Wave of very short sentences, abbreviations and images instead of elaborated sentences and words, high quality written messages are also very powerful.

I try everyday to read and learn more about the English language. I try to read what I perceive to be high quality press, to improve my skills and try to relay messages appropriately. And, from now on, I will read your blog! Why? It will help me immensely in improving my skills.

Thank you very much for sharing your gift.

Yours truly,

Carlos

Dear Carlos, So sorry to take so long to respond. I wanted to savor your wonderfully heartfelt and kind comments. Please do not underestimate all the experiences you have to offer the internet world.
Remember that value = quality + cost. If we are giving so much of our content away in our websites for free, then we are definitely offering one part of that value we all desire. It is then, only for us to make sure that what we offer is quality content as well. And that is what I am exploring on my website. What makes for the quality of that content?

I think that as long as we continue to do the research that is required to give quality information and content then we are providing great value.

There is nothing 'passive' about offering other people the great quality and value that is inside of ourselves. I think that WA will help with the promotion of your content. You just keep writing it.

There are many wonderful gifts and qualities inside of yourself that are waiting to be shared with the world. Speaking four languages is a tremendous accomplishment. As the years go by you will have a very rich life experiencing and understanding of all the subtle nuances of each of the different languages you speak. You will have a greater understanding of the family of man that we all belong to and the differences that make us all so unique.

I hate to turn this comment into a commercial, but your struggle with expressing yourself in English can easily be helped with Grammar applications that you can download to your computer.

I am thinking in particular of one called Grammarly. I have a bachelor's degree and I use it all the time. I found it here on WA and it is great! If you have chrome, safari or firefox web browsers you can get a free version. However, if you can afford to you might want to upgrade and take advantages of what the application has to offer. Go to Grammarly.com, and see what you think. You may just find, like I did, that you will be getting a grammar, spelling and context lesson every time you use it. And it is so easy to use. Let me know what you think.

I hope you will email me at beth@writingqualitycontent.com and ask me any question you may have about your content. I will be happy to read it over and let you know what I see.

All the best Carlos. And again thank you for your comments and so sorry to take so long to get back to you.

Elizabeth

Oh Beth I praise thee and thank you for your unselfishness and interpretation of these new skills that you are sharing with the WA community. You in very poetic words have shown the creativity that everyone has deep inside them and used eloquent words to show others that you are never too old to learn and to teach. I hope that you never quit and continue to tell others that we all have a story to tell. May you also teach your grand daughter to have faith in the humanity of people even when it sometimes is hard to see. Thank you!
Ken

So sorry Ken. I have not responded to your comment. Things get very hectic when learning a new skill like this internet website construction and promotion. Every time I hear from someone about what I have written, I gives me great encouragement to keep learning. I will definitely look in on your site from time to time to see how you are doing. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Beth
