The daunting commitment of choosing a niche.

I joined Premium just yesterday and got straight into it.

I've had somewhat of a business planned in my head for some time now, but for whatever reason, whenever the word 'niche' comes up, the alarm bells are set off.

I was surprised at how soon the training invited us to choose a niche, and then took us through the website set-up, meaning I also needed to choose a title!

I panicked. It's the commitment, you see.

I created one website and went through to setting up the About Me post.

Then I had a sudden change of heart (another panic!) and created ANOTHER website!

The crazy thing is that it's all basically about the same thing. I'm in the health and wellness industry and it all leads back to wellbeing.

But I've always had this fear of going in the wrong direction - taking up the wrong niche.

I know the training talks about this! It's no big deal, just choose something! You can always change it. I get this, and yet it's so bloody hard for me to choose!! What if I get it wrong?!

And then the affiliate part...holy moly, now there's another reason to panic, right?! What the heck am I going to 'sell'??

I do hope you can hear the lightness in my post...there is definitely an element of holy shit to it, but I can also see the funny side.

So please yell out if you're reading this and you can relate to what I'm saying (maybe you even created 3 websites in the space of half an hour when you first started, too!).

Or maybe you're an expert in choosing a niche, and you can offer me a life-line.

Otherwise, I will just make that choice, and jump!

The really good thing about coming to the online world is that we get to explore our creative side, set our own pace, and choose our own direction.

One of the best things we can do is to cross each bridge as we get to it.

Best wishes.

Great advice.

When I started learning about the online world some years ago, I was in total overwhelm. There was no way I could have set my own pace! I was in freak-out mode, thinking I was NEVER going to get this.

I'm in a different place now and feel much more prepared to move forward.

Thanks for your response.

You will do well, when the time is right we can make good progress.

So true

No right or wrong niche. I chose a great one..made nice money out of it..3 years later bitch slapped about a lot by google (despite playing by their rules) and losing a great business!.

Lesson learned - own your traffic!

Eeek! What happened?! And what do you mean by own your traffic?

Could you write a post about this? Maybe something we could all afford to learn about.

Chosen the first niche. Halfway working on it and loss the feel. Built more websites. Finally found only one to work on.

yay! Great you got there :)

I think all of us go through that phase to some extent... I definitely did!

I tried to figure out what would be the most profitable niche, and where I might be able to get the most traffic and such things...

In the end I decided to go with the thing that I was most passionate about. Because the truth of the matter is, that you can make money in any niche, but it takes work. So you'll be reading and writing and researching a lot within your niche... Basically spending a lot of time and energy on the subject you're working with... Therefore it should be something that you enjoy working with, right?!? ;)

I hope you found your answer, or that you find it soon.

Good luck with all of it!

Best wishes,
Michael

thanks Michael. Yes I agree that it needs to be something that interests me!

I'm thinking a lot about finding affiliates to put links onto my website and make some money that way. This is completely new to me and I'm not sure where I would find this. It's causing some concern but maybe I don't need to think about that just yet.

Bel,
Honesty is the best policy in my book so here goes -
I joined WA and within the first week had my website
built for what I thought was going to be a good niche -
uummm that did not work so good for me I did not
know enough to write about it - Now I start Boot
Camp because I had finished OEC training. Cool
going to promote WA - still have no clue exactly
what I am doing - decide to go with a niche website
again - pick dogs - now I am working back and forth
between 2 websites and making progress but to my
amazement not enough to make me happy - boom
another website is born - Well now today I have been
here almost 4 months and have 5 websites up and
running all doing rather well - I keep my Site Health
at Awesome 100% down the board with the exception of
Site Feedback and Google Trust because seriously I
am new Google does not know me from Adam so
yes, I feel where you are :)
Hope this might help you just a little bit knowing you
are not the only person who is affected by what to do :)

Thanks for your response! Good to know I'm not alone and happy to hear you're making some progress :)

Sorry for the book :)

no problem! it was a good read :)

Hi Bel, just take a breath and follow your heart:)

Breeeathe :)

Hi, Bel. You may want to read this helpful post .

thank you, I will!

I totally understand what you are saying. I start with an idea and put together a website, but then I think I want to narrow the niche I have chosen so then I think I need another website. I often get stuck in this phase, delete a website and try to start over.

Yes! This was me yesterday!

I think we just need to make a decision and put the blinkers on!
