How to Redirect a First Time Visitor to a Thank You Page
I was asked a question the other day about how to redirect a comment to an "awesome little thank you" page. I have been asked this questions a few times now so I thought I'd show you how it's done. So let's look at how to redirect a blog comment to a thank you page.
Getting your comments to redirect like this is an exceptionally smart idea since it enables you to build a relationship with newbie commentators along with getting them closer to register, to that very important subscriber list, all of us require.
In this post, I'm going to show you how you can redirect your newbie comments to a capture page.
A Capture Page - A Squeeze Page?
Did I mention a Squeeze Page what the hell is that?
Well, a Squeeze page is basically a page on your blog or website that you utilize to "squeeze" individuals through to another location of your site. It's also referred to as a landing page.
The most common squeeze pages are ones that function as a pre-sale landing page and prime the reader to purchase some item that is going to appear after the next click through.
Research has actually shown that these capture pages work extremely well, Your new visitor has no intention of signing up or hasn't even thought about purchasing something. But it's like planting a seed for a presale in their minds. An awesome little "thank you" page after a new visitor leaves his or her first talk about your site is a powerful method to solidify the relationship.
Exactly what should I place on my squeeze/thank you page?
What you write on your thank you page is incredibly important. It does not need to be perfect however it does have to have some sort of rhyme and factor. Some ideas include:
- A very individual message
Talking about a website is a personal thing. This comment redirect idea is a way to make it a lot more personal and give individuals an opportunity to get to understand you. Because of that, I make my squeeze page extremely personal and inject a little bit of humor and fun. The more casual the better.
- Your newsletter signup
The concept here is that if somebody simply left a comment they are most likely, only a few actions from registering to your newsletter or RSS feed. Provide a couple of reasons they must take that action and make it simple by having the form in the content.
- Your preferred posts
I likewise prefer to show the commentators a few of my preferred posts and let them understand that they may like to read them as well. Exactly what if they leave? I don't care. The idea is to get them to know who I am and what I can do.
So how do you redirect very first time newbie comments?
Okay, so how do you get your very first-time comments to redirect to a thank you page? Well, its in fact quite easy. Follow the Yellow Brick Roadway:
1. Develop your squeeze/thank you page
To begin with, login into WordPress and hit PAGES and create your page. Make sure it includes the elements above and, notably, ensure it includes a private sign up type form that is differently labeled from your other optin forms, so you know the number of individuals are registering from that page.
2. Set up the plugin
Head over to your Plugins browse area by going PLUGINS > ADD NEW and after that search. Type in "Comment Redirect by Yoast" and install it when it shows up.
3. Set the page
As soon as the plugin is installed it will appear in the Plugins sidebar (generally, plugins install in the Settings area), simply click it and set it to your recently crafted page.
That's it! Now all of your new commentators will be sent to that page and, ideally, register to your subscriber list.
