Building links is hard, But we all know to get our sites in googles first pages its a must

Link building has been a hard part of SEO for a very long time. But we used to get away with somewhat easier and shadier tactics.

In the past, you were able to rank a site by setting up some parameters on some software and by pushing the button we could get links from a whole lot of different sites.

When people started getting penalized for those methods, a big portion of the SEO community turned to personal blog networks (PBNs).

And it wasn't long before the big Google hammer pounded us into the abyss!

So now, we're doing link building the proper way. It's a bit harder, and it takes a bit more work, but in the end, it's much, much more efficient, and it's much much better business.

So what works now?

There are a couple of things that work now.

The very first and crucial thing to remember is that outreach will be the foundation of any link building efforts.

Outreach consists of guest posting, the skyscraper approach, and essentially anything where you're constructing a relationship with someone to obtain a link.

Today, we'll speak about the first piece of the puzzle: an excellent set of base links.

What are base links?

Base links are a set of links that will get your website a little bit of authority, importance, anchor text variety, IP variety, brand name recognition and link juice.

Usually, they're not getting you to the top of the SERPs. They will give you just a little bit of momentum, and it will be helpful for building a great foundation.

Base links have the following attributes:

They're fairly easy

They're clean

They're diverse

When you build a set of base links, you do not wish to have to work super hard. You just want some excellent links pointing to your website.

In total, you ought to strive 30-100 base links.

That's not a hard and fast number; it's just a rough guideline and the ease of which you'll have the ability to get links will depend largely on your market and your existing connections.

Where do you get base links?

The idea behind a set of base links is that you get them from anywhere as long as it's fairly simple and 100% tidy.

So, while I'm going to offer you some ideas, if you know of another good, clean, easy location to get links, go for it!

Here're a couple of links I want to get as base links ...

1. Infographic links. These are truly simple, since there are a variety of different infographic directories, and plenty of them will give you a dofollow link. Here are simply a few:

Visual.ly

Topinforgraphic.com

Coolinfographics.com

Nerdgraph.com

Infographicsonly.com

Dailyinfographic.com

2. Directory site links. Directory site links are difficult since a few of them can be sort of spammy. However, there are plenty of excellent directories out there, and they can give you some remarkably effective links. The most crucial thing to bear in mind here is to just have your links listed and relevant pages. Here are a few of the directories I suggest most:

Best of the Web

Moz

Bbb

Hot vs Not

JoeAnt

3. Blog site aggregators. Blog aggregators are pretty much precisely what they sound like: sites that aggregate blog sites in a lot of various topic areas. You need to take care here, too. Initially, some are spammy. Second, some are particular, so you need to have some good material on your website before you submit. The good news, however, is that these are absolutely free. Here are a few good ones:

Alltop

Technorati

Blogarama

Bloghub

Regator

Icerocket

4. Business and 1-800 number listing sites. You can get a 1-800 number for a few bucks. This makes it pretty easy to obtain a few excellent base links from sites that put together lists of companies and their contact number. Here are a few great company directories and 1-800 listing sites you can submit to:

Crunchbase.com

Activerain.com

Kudzu.com

Biznik.com

Inter800.com

Intertollfree.com

5. Sharing websites. These days, there's a sharing site for practically whatever: images, audio, logo designs, infographics, video, and so on. The majority of these websites let you have some type of link in your profile, and some will permit you to stick dofollow links in the descriptions of your stuff. There are tons of these out there, so do not be afraid to poke around. Here are a few, though:

Yourlisten.com

Reverbnation.com

Podcastdirectory.com

Designshack.net

Styleboost.com

Logogala.com

6. Ask people you know for links. This is about as simple as it gets, these links can be clean and simple, and they can be powerful to boot, especially if you have web-savvy friends. Obviously, these links work best if you can get them on appropriate pages, but take exactly what you can get.

7. Blog site comments. You do not wish to invest too much time commenting on blog sites since almost all blog comments links nowadays are no-follow. However, they can still offer a little anchor text variety, and it is among the few linking opportunities that can refer visitors to your website. They'll also have a quite high relevancy rating if you comment on good, relevant pages.

8. Online forum links. Online forum links resemble blog comment links because many of them are going to be no-follow. They also have the extra drawback of usually having a low page authority. However, the significance is normally off the charts, and you can completely manage the anchor text. The key here is to in fact offer value to an online forum, so you don't get deleted by the moderators.

Wrapping it up!

There you go! That's 8 strong techniques that can get you a handful of clean, simple links quick. If you can get 5-10 links from each, you'll have a pretty strong set of base links to work off of!

Ah Bea! I admire your knowledge! And thanks for the post.

I must confess I didn't understand a word. I haven't heard of any of the links you shared above, I have no idea what they are for and even when you explain it here, I still don't know.

I wonder if you could do a training and begin really from scratch, for complete dummies like myself and many others here in the community? I know it is much work, but it might be better than your private help which I already could experience and was very grateful. A training could reach more people at once!

Thank you!
Heidi

Sugar I just wrote this long reply and just lost it.
It's a bit hard to do a video training, as I have a mother who has her tv blaring, I can't even think at times, to listen to webinars I have to put my head phones on. This is something you guys need to be learning, because it's part of Internet marketing, but I don't see it here. Maybe jay can do a training about it, in the old days I had one page with all my links on it, you would write to a webmaster and they would exchange links with with you, but Google has changed everything, it didn't seem relevant but now Google wants to see the back links, to authority sites, this is going to boosted your site up. it will fasten the process .. And your welcome, if you need any help pm me, remembering the time zone, it may take me sometimes a few hours to answer, so sorry about that.. I'm in the process of launching my product so have been working on that..

Ah Bea, you are so kind - and how frustrating to loose the text - and not to have a quiet place to work.
You are right, I will ask Jay, he seems to know everything.
I will thank you for your help by writing other comments for you in the next days!

Timezone difference: What is your timezone? Mine is CET

Hi Heidi, thank you, I'm in oz so it's like 11 hours difference I think..

NZ? New Zealand? Where all these huge earthquakes are in these days? O dear! So you would be 11 hours before me, my evening is your morning.
Good to know. Have a wonderful day - we are soon going out for the Thanksgiving Dinner in our friend's house.

This is quite interesting and helpful. An area I have not been paying attention to. I have bookmarked this with a weekly reminder. Thank you.
