Moving Past Shiny Object Syndrome

Hello, my name is Barb, and I have Shiny Object Syndrome. I've run across (and purchased) several different affiliate marketing programs, software, and so on throughout the last few years. Some of them good and some of them just plan crap. None the less, I would go at it whole heartedly....until the next BIG THING (aka shiny object) came along promising to be the best and only thing I would ever need. I'm sure there are some of you here that can relate.

The funny thing is, I was hesitant about joining Wealthy Affiliate. Something about the idea of a monthly subscription was holding me back. You see, I kept looking for the one thing that would just show me how to do this affiliate marketing stuff and then I could be on my happy little way to earning a living at it. Well you know what? There is no such thing.

Affiliate marketing is so much more than just one method or tool. And it changes and evolves over time too. I have learned a little bit about a lot of different methods, from websites to email marketing and so on.

By the time I decided to join Wealthy Affiliate I already owned 12 domain names. Each in completely different niches. Most of them had WordPress setup but have been saying "Hello World" for a very long time. A few are actually developed into websites and even getting a little traffic from time to time. Then there are a couple that I haven't done one thing with. But I can't let them go because "someday" I knew I'd get to them.

When I finally joined I was surprised at the almost immediate and welcoming response of this community. As I started working my way through the trainings, and things started clicking for me. All of these little pieces I have in my head started making more sense. And I could see how this is a journey to build my future with.

I have to tell you though, I have a love/hate relationship with those little check boxes at the end of each lesson. To succeed we must take action and those little check boxes hold me accountable to it. If I leave one unchecked then I'm not doing all that I can to move forward.

I have started doing keyword research, and writing content, and the most challenging for me was to become active in the community, actually leaving comments. I'm admittedly a lurker on forums. I want to help people. I just find it difficult to actually put myself out there. Along the way in the training we are asked to participate, comment, even ask for help. That last one is the hardest for me. But it has been so worth it! No one has told me I'm ridiculous or criticized my efforts. Instead there is an absolute outpouring of support. I feel like part of this community and that helps keeps me motivated.

Enough yammering from me. It's time to start my next lesson! Best of luck to everyone! And I want you all to know how much I appreciate this community. Best business investment I've ever made!

There are so many con artists promising instant results. Here they show you how you can build an online business through the knowledge they provide and your efforts.
Sincerely,
Xin

Thank you for the kind and encouraging comments.
I keep thinking of Dory on Finding Nemo. "Just keep swimming, just keep swimming" let's all keep on swimming! And now that song is probably stuck in your head too....sorry about that. :)

Well, said Barb. I was the same way....spending money, trying to find "the magic pill" that would lead me by the hand and help me be a success. My e-mails were full of mail from all these different outfits, wanting me to watch this to learn about that...and at the end of the video I was supposed to click on a link that would lead me to the promised land, which ultimately was to spend more money. WA has been amazing in it's scope and so inexpensive compared to the others. I feel so blessed that I found it.

Thumbs Up! So true about Shiny object syndrome. I just have to tell myself to focus and keep doing whatever I can, and learn whatever I need to learn to move ahead.
