I hope when I’m 85, my heart feels love and joy and peace and a sense that my years are on earth were worth it, that I contributed, that I made a difference.

I hope when I’m 85 I have a nice little swing, under a pergola, to sit and read and smell the fresh air.

I hope I have grandkids playing in the yard that will bring me a worm or a big black bug to examine with great fascination and I hope I am still fascinated. I hope I am healthy and well read and soft and tender with an easy laugh and a mind still open to new ideas and the ever changing world.

I hope I have a fat black cat that sits with me, contentedly.

I hope I have traveled the world and experienced sights that excited me, scared me and moved me to tears. I hope I have connected to many, felt joy, felt sorrow and broke bread with people I love and admire. And I hope I am able to remember.

I hope my sister is still alive, no one else on earth can you share a connection with like that of a sibling. I hope we still love and admire each other.

I hope when I’m 85 I’m surrounded by people who love me and people I absolutely love and adore. And I hope to have my soul-mate at my side that can laugh at the miracles and share in the humors.

I hope I look back at my struggles, my narcissism, my sadness, my anger, my resentments, my dependence on the good opinion of others and I’m able to smile, knowing that I “got it” and all the drama, lessons and experiences were meant to be and made me the amazing woman I am.

I hope to have my Fathers sense of right and wrong. His comfort level and understanding of man’s inhumanity to humanity, his ability to give and to give thanks and to understand.

I hope to have a legacy, a financial legacy, to give thanks for my time on this earth and for my son, I was so lucky to be chosen to be his Mom.

At 85, I hope I choose where to live and how to live. I hope I have options to live part-time in Costa Rica and part time where ever else in the world compels me. I hope I have choices and freedom and peace that everything is as it’s meant to be.

I hope I have the option of playing cards, gardening or sitting on a boat, I hope I get to choose.

I hope at 85, people are happier to see me come than to go.
