The Journey Begins.
So I upgraded to being a premium member of Wealthy Affiliate just 11 days ago on the 1st of October. Its fair to say that I have had quite a bit of experience when it comes to creating wordpress websites so I perhaps have a bit more of an advantage over some people but its still very time consuming to try and produce good content.
I'm still working a full time job that I hate, last week was a 60 hour week for me as well as trying to build my online business. Never the less I really wanted to follow the training here on WA so that I could be sure that I was getting it right.
Over the years I have gained quite a lot of relevant knowledge in the field of marketing and making money online so wanted to create a fairly large authority site on the subject using white-hat, ethical methods. Thanks to the Wealthy Affiliate membership the two go really well together and I'm really enjoying the experience so far.
So far one of the biggest decisions that I had to make was choosing the domain name! I had already decided on the niche and what I wanted to cover within the site but in the end the choice was still quite difficult when it came to the domain name. In the end after talking with several people and doing a bit of research online I finally made the decision to launch www.makemoneyonline.zone despite the recommendations to go with a dot com or dot org. The dot zone domain name caused a bit of a divided argument, some think that dot com and dot org domains rank better, others don't. In the end I went with the advise of Matt Cutts from Google who assures me that it makes no difference and that its the content of the site that counts!
The last 11 days have not only made me think about my own business but I have also been able to help others with their projects too. There is a real sense of community spirit here at Wealthy Affiliate. I'm really looking forward to spending more time here.

Well, here you are one year later! I've always thought the nit picking over domain prefix is silly. Its the content, not the wrapper.
Exactly! Well said. Right at the beginning I thought it would be a good experiment to see if a dot zone domain would rank well. I was right to take the plunge and test it out. There are still people that say that .com and .org sites rank better. That might have been the case a few years ago, but not now. Content rules over the domain name by far.

Wow, this was one year ago today! How time goes by. Well i'm still here and i'm still enjoying the WA experience. Hopefully the next year will be a profitable one!

Hi there! I have found that working here on Wealthy Affiliate is pretty much a balancing act. My suggestion to you as a newcomer would be not to focus on rank too much in the beginning. Channel your energy into building your site. Follow the training and put it into action, your rank will increase naturally as you progress. My rank has gone up pretty quickly as I have been doing this kind of thing for a long time now and I'm able to help others with their questions, as you will eventually. The main thing for you to concentrate on right now is building a website and filling it full of useful content. Let me know if I can help!

congrats on your decision to become premium! Good choice as the training is quality training. I have to say that I have never heard of .zone. But your domain name makes total sense with your niche. Hope you are able to build the site you want and dream of building
