Don't always have to hit it dead-on

Recently I was out chopping wood. Something I haven't done for 30 years.

As I was chipping away at the stubby little log, I noticed a similarity of how I'm treating my business.

There were some inexperinced helpers around and I noticed that they would automatically swing the axe for dead center. Hoping to instantly split that log in half and quickly make that large piece into usable firewood.

That works fine for the smaller pieces from the branches but not so for the pieces that come from the trunk.

For those you need to "chip" away at the edges .

Slowly working around the log, splitting the edges off into usable pieces. Plus a lot of kindling.

Repeating the process until you finally reach the center.

Its actually much less effort and more efficient than trying to split it right at the core.

Plus the satisfaction of seeing your progress all around you.

Needless to say, some of us approach our business the same way.

I'm guilty of trying to hit it dead on the first time and hoping to see great progress.

Despite the cautions in the trainings here at WA, I would do most of the exercises and skip some others that I just didn't think I could split wide open on the first try.

Hence, I am putting up my first WA blog, which is overdue by more than a year, in an effort to restart chipping away at my very large business, begin to get some useful pieces of progress and eventually get to the core.

I know where I want to be but I need to focus on splitting off a piece at a time so I can start kindling my business.

I see my business as a raging, yet controled, bonfire with all my friends and their friends around enjoying the warmth on a crisp day enjoying the commoradery.

I can't have that unless I put in the work to split the wood, gather pieces, put down the kindling and spark a tiny flame to it.

I can't have a raging fire without a small spark.

Well, I have the spark.

WA is the kindling.

All I have to do is get all the pieces together, light the fire and invite my friends.

Best of success to Everyone here at WA,

Alan

Thanks Jeff. I think your amazing.
You've actually inspired me to start writing again (rusty as I am).

Best wishes to you.

Alan

Good luck with that writing, Alan--it'll come back quickly to you--like riding a bike!
