Finally launched my online course

I now understand how time-consuming it can be to churn out an online course. I thought it was only going to be a month, after all, I had all the knowledge and experience in my head. I was completely wrong and off track. Needless to say, it took me almost four months, to design the course, the contents, the slides, the video, find the platform to launch on and created campaign to drive traffic.

Secondly, I under (or is this over?)estimated was how much I was going to make. I thought I would make $10,000 in month one, oh boy! was I wrong? I am grateful though because, at the end of one month, which was a few days ago, after all the webinars to push traffic and the free cheat sheet, I finally sold a total of $1600, yippie. That amount is way below what I anticipated, but I realised that even a $1 sale from your hard work feels like $1million (except for the zeros) and I am grateful for the sale.

I am still excited that I put my mind to it, completed the course, put myself out there, made some sales and now, I feel like I deserve some celebrations (no matter how small). Then its back to the market to sell some more courses.

So two reasons for the little blog:

1. Every who has been planning to build a website, start a side gig, blog, etc., you should just go out there and do it. Sometimes you may feel discouraged, distracted or even come close to discontinuing the project. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN. If you have thought about it and started the journey, then you deserve the best, which is completing the quest; unless there is a justifiable reason to give up.

2. I want to create a bigger market for my course, and someone has suggested going through the affiliate route, any ideas or thoughts on how to achieve this, plus any ideas on how to get more people to buy my course?

My niche is business analysis, and it is my passion as well.

Thank you for taking time to read my blog.

Have you thought about places such as Udemy, Coursera, etc?

With both platforms, I will have to heavily discount my price. However, I am happy to go down that route after breaking even, or when the next course has been launched and I need a handsome list to market the new product to. I understand that with both platforms, you can get tons of traffic. Nevertheless, I will research both platforms, so I don't lose out of something valuable. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yup - creating an online course is hard work but it's worth it. I created one two years ago and it's been earning me $20-30 / month with no further input from me.

I've been working on the follow up but it's so hard to find the time.

Wow. I would love to get to that point where the course can auto generate funds but I guess it's early days for me

I created mine on one of the course platforms that does all the selling for you - so my students are coming from there.

The annoying thing is that I've been told that if I created a new course, based on the regular consumption of my current course, I'd probably see around $100/month. I need to find the time!

@philemerson I used a different platform, where I set the fees. But its hard work driving traffic to the site. It might be better getting on one of the platforms that drive traffic to your course, but that would also mean driving down the price. so maybe when I break even :-) I will migrate to the other platforms and just relax, while they send me the traffic.

Bear in mind, you can publish to multiple platforms so you'll have a larger source of students.

Good luck!
