Sleep On It

If there's one thing I'm learning as I go through life, it's that you should always sleep after you've learned something new before making a decision. The same also goes for when you're faced with a big decision.

Sleep is important for so very many reasons. It is said that we do not truly learn something until after we've gone to sleep and woken up the next day. Sleep gives us time to process the information that we've been give and truly committing it to memory.

Another reason I think the idea of sleeping before taking any action is important is it helps get some of the emotion out of the way. Excitement and anger play the biggest parts in doing things impulsively. Just like an impulse buy can lead to buyer's remorse, an impulse action can lead to regret if you're acting on emotion and there hasn't been enough time to digest all the information (or acquire it).

So before you make any truly big moves in your life, or even just make decisions that can make a noticeable change, sleep on it. Let your mind process the data, let your body rest, and let your emotions even out. It's always best to make decisions with a level head and with all the facts at your disposal.

Just don't dawdle too long, you could find opportunities passing you up if you do! More on that later.

Totally agree! Some days I'm all bothered about something. I work myself up. I get to a point where I have to say - STOP! - go to bed, read a book, calm down, sleep. Then the next day it doesn't feel quite so bad or such a hard decision.
