The might of Image Studio: Fixing old photos

Not too long ago, one of our great members and good friend Robert (boomergp08) wrote a couple of blog posts here about how he made $20 restoring old photos and how amazing the images turned out.

Just today I had a chat in Messenger with one of my cousins and my brother. Many years ago, (over 50 ), our Uncle, (my cousin's father) passed away. His headstone is in serious need of fixing, due to damage by vandals over the years and significant weathering along with our grandmother's as well, but her's is not as bad, we still need to find a photo to use for her, and we are all in the process of chipping in together to fix them both.

The photo of my uncle can’t be saved, so we will need to find a new photo to replace it. She doesn’t have much to go by as he passed away when she was little. Around 5 years of age her mother left them and she lived with our grandmother when he passed away. So all we have is memories of what my brother and I have, along with the photos my parents took over the years

So when reading Robert’s post, I thought of the same in looking for any old photos but now with this conversation it gave more meaning to seeing what can be done.

I used Image Studio rather than kre8or as I don’t have much credits left there but still Image Studio does just as good of a job and I am very happy with the results. I also have a few more to do and refine some images perhaps where there are more one person like my parent with him or myself will do that when we work out some more along the way.

Funny when I looked and found these photos, I still remember and recall many of the moments for most of them along the way, bar a couple. Looking back at old family photos does bring back some sad and emotional feeling but also feelings of joy and happiness to remember those moment I had with my Uncle and Grandmother.

I don't have much of my Grandmother but still remember the first time she made me sandwiches when I stayed with her for a week during the school holiday when I was little. With my Uncle, we had so many moments before he became a father and also took me into his arms and shared many moments together, including my first Kangaroo toy he gave me, which I still have and gave it to my daughter for keepsake.

Below are some original images as you will see how old and the colour of the photos have faded along with some creases in a couple of the photos. The little kid with my Uncle in some of them is all me LOL.

So if you have some old photos in that long lost photo album have a look for any one that has lost its looks and you will see just how a simple prompt can make the difference to looking good once more

Here is the prompt I used, nothing fancy as this is just to update the images

So add your reference image and give this super easy prompt

“Fix the image remove all scratches and imperfections from the reference image”

That’s it if you want, you can get a bit more creative and give more precise detail, but no real need.

So these are just some of which I did this morning my time and as I looked into old old photo albums, I found many more faded image photos not related to this but that can be fixed and adjusted.

Your thoughts on the difference the images had made to the original photo is appreciated. I know there is a slight difference in image ratios but that can always be fixed later if needed.

As we are trying to figure out the best image to use on his headstone I decided to test a few things out the this is the result by seperating him from my image with him to being on his own for the right purpose here are they both and you can look up and see which images they both relate to hint me with the toys and us on one of my birthdays
