Doing the Keyword Research
Like all of you, I spend a whole lot of time doing keyword research with the tools we have available.
When I do research in the keyword tool, I often get minus 10 searches. Oddly enough, I have a keyword named: "Great Mexican Xango Dessert Recipe". This longtail keyword brings 590 visits to my site every month. This is by far, my most popular post on my website.
I chose that keyword even though I got less then 10 searches and based it on what I had found on Google. I actually used Soovle.com to see if this term was being searched at all.
So If you do get that -10 searches, it does not mean you will not rank. You are more then welcome to check out my keyword and you will notice it.

That's correct Gary. It's not because you get a minus 10 that your keyword will not rank. This just means that the keyword tool has not done the research on it.
That's good to know, Annick! I didn't know that about the minus 10 thing. I thought that meant that the keyword got less than 10 searches per month, therefore, it was not worth pursuing! Thanks for the tip!
I also thought the same thing until I noticed my stats. I was amazed by all the visits that this keyword brings to my site. It's also ranked #1 in Google.

I do use Soovle and ubersuggest to determine, first what is being searched in relation to my niche. I make my list and go to jaaxy to look at the competition on a word. Jaaxy uses exact match terms. Google does not… they include everything that may have one or 2 of the words in it… you can look at the searches they pull and see the difference. Uber does what google does, it just gives you the alphabet soup all on one page which lets you see all the possibilities with your chosen Niche.
What keeps one off the first page the most, is the competition for that term…. how many articles are you competing with and are you competing with substantial companies and brands in that space. I have never relied on one source for numbers to make such an important decision article titles, domains, and in your case, recipes.
Exactly Julie. You are the one who taught me to use soovle and ubersuggest. ;-)
I had forgotten about that. Glad you are back here. I thought Friday night was funny… :)
I'm also glad and we had fun last Friday night. Boy, I had a good laugh. :) xxx
