Meet Kerith! There is Good News in the World, Even During Disasters

Last Update: September 13, 2020

Meet Kerith, the Golden Retriever

I want to share a feel good story! My sister-in-law Heidi loves dogs and has a successful dog walking business (Heidi's Happy Dogs). She also trains guide dog puppies and one of her trainees, Kerith, didn't quite qualify for Guide Dogs because she was too energetic and affectionate.

So she changed careers, and Heidi thought that Kerith would make a wonderful therapy dog. Kerith became certified and is allowed to visit hospitals and patients, as well as fire stations to meet fire fighters.

You may have seen in the news that parts of California are fighting terrible wildfires caused by lightning strikes. Heidi and Kerith, the golden retriever have taken there skills to the front lines of the fires.

In the early morning, before the fire fighters began a new day of battle, they get a visit from Kerith. Many of the fire fighters are away from home for long periods of time and they miss there own four legged friends. Kerith is there to greet them and give them some love.

National TV Star

Today on Good Morning America, Kerith was named Pet of the Week. Here is a link to that award on TV. Kerith has also been in the news this week with a national story on CNN, which was picked up by local affiliates around the USA!

Here is the CNN story. Meet Kerith, the 2-year-old golden retriever who comforts firefighters in California by David Blank, CNN.

Here is a short video of Kerith's story that also made the news this week. We are living in such difficult times, isn't it nice to see a warm and comforting story in times like these?

Way to Go Heidi and Kerith the Golden Retriever!

You can be friends with Kerith on her Instagram page here.

It just goes to show you that there are good stories that can be found and appreciated, even during difficult national disasters. Pets can be healing and comforting, especially now.
