Have you fallen down a well?
Where I started to where I'm at.
I wandered in here by accident. I figured 'hey I'll give it a go' Free trial always a winner. Now, I'm, ufff, I don't know few weeks in and I've got:
- a website
- social mediia accounts up and running
- a guest lnvited blog post written
- google ranked (although to be honest until I understand what the hell to do with Google Analytics I've got no idea what's happening on my posts etc.)
- have started learning how to do email campaigns
- have a real sense of achievment.
Why I feel like I've actually got something
Now, don't get me wrong, I am not doing WA 24/7. The training for example was somewhat overloading me for a bit, so I did something else. I hunted for cold call contacts (ok cold emails but you know what I mean) in my niche.
Ok, granted they didn't find me through my website traffic or my content, but either way now I've got a list of potential referral streams. And with time this will grow into opt-in as opposed to ambulance chasing. Without the website I wouldn't have even had cold calls. It was having that something tangiable to demonstrate - albeit a bit rough and ready (ok I'll admit it I'm dead proud of my home made website) - that meant I could reach out.
And yeah, my cold calls resulted in a few acknowledgements. I usually estimate between 1-2% return on unsolicited contacts. I made 4%. I was pleased. From one cold call I got invited to write for a professional blog with a readershiip of 15K legal professionals UK and State-side . A foot in the door; the beginning of credibitlity; a track record people can see; laying breadcrumbs going to my house.
Dead time is extinct
So ok, I have not converted anythiing yet, I didn't expect to so soon. My niche isn't that type of thing. But now I don't have dead time. I'm not sitting there staring at the phone or wandering around in a haphazard manner doing a half-arsed job at trying to attract clients. I've got a plan. I've got some goals. I've got some tasks which build. And when I get overwhelmnd with one thing, I go do somethinng else for a bit because it's all related.
For instance I got dog-tired of hunting down contacts, so jumped at writing the invited content. After that was done I realised I had all these email addresses that I didn't know what to do with and spamming people isn't my thing. So back to WA to check out about email marketing. Which brough me back to my basic course training.
Now this might seem haphazard but it's more cyclical. You learn, you do, you need to learn some more, then out you go again to do, and all the time you are doing and producing and creating and making yourself more visible and more certain about what it is you are offering to your clients.
It sort of went like this. I built a website. I had something to show. I found a lot of emails to show people my shiny new website. I got an offer to write content. More people then knew I existed from a couple of hours writing. Then I had to learn what to do with all those other emails. Which taught me to design my content differently for different purposes. Which will take me back to understanding my traffic better. Etc etc.
I read Kyle saying don't multi-task and I agree, but I'd put it somewhat differently. Follow the task. Do the task. Embrace the next task it brings to light. Know what you are trying to achieve - establish trust, create a brand, learn. There's a difference between being distracted - falling down the well - and what I'm doing. It may read like I'm doing a million things but what I'm really doing is follwing the learning tasks, laying down my breadcrumbs so eventually there will be a clear path to my house. And better than that I've made that path so I can't get lost.

Well done, Anne! IMHO, I would get absolutely nothing down if I didn't multi-task!
Jeff
I'm a mum we're supposed to be the masters of multi-tasking...I suspect though it's just a con our kids are running on us to get us to do their chores - 'mum you are so good at multi-tasking' yeah unn hmm.....a tactic I suspect lol
Yes, we have to watch our kids for sure! They are so adept at ending up having to do nothing! It will bite them in the butt though when they eventually leave the nest!
