Putting Pen to Paper or Fingers to The Keyboard
My first 3 weeks at WA and what a journey. I have read and tried to digest all the information on offer up to setting up a wbsite.
Now comes my dilemma. I have never written a blog before. As a nurse for over 30 years my writing life consisted of acronyms and minimal descriptors to fit on small pieces of paper at handover. Charting was ticks, crosses, numbers and initials.
I remember being really good at precis writing at school but could manage to put some words together for an exam because I had to.
This dilemma has held me back whilst looking for a niche. My interests are broad but not deep. I enjoy gardening, but not enough to write about it. I am sure putting Jigsaws together is fine but not as an income generator, as does doing family history research. My passion was nursing from a very early age but I am now out of that field and don't have a driver that is nearly as strong as that was.
I am here because I want to generate an extra income. I am worried going into retirement that I won't have enough. I realise that the giving should come before the recieving and that I should be working with this program; which is to find a problem and provide a solution.
Just how big should a blog be -how many words- would make it seem a reasonable attempt to convey information? As this is my first blog I would love some feedback on formatting or whatever comes to mind.
With thanks in anticipation.

Anne, I understand what you're saying in your blog. I can hear the anxiety and fear in your blog.
Do you see yourself interested in writing about nursing - simple signs regarding medical conditions that the public need to know?
Any sort of red flags signs in minor illness conditions?
As a nurse myself, I am.just making suggestions, should you still have any interest in nursing.
I would love to hear from you.
Hi Simone,
Thank you for responding to my post. I have been away from nursing for too long now I think to actaully provide any relevant information. However that is not to say that I can't relearn and add to that knowledge.
I had been exploring some areas around back pain which I think can be generic. I think that once you get into health you have to be aware of litigation possibilities and that puts me off really following that path.
I love that you have followed the path of Nurse Practitioner. It was just getting started and too late in my career path to follow. My specialty was Gastroenterology.
I will follow you now that I have seen your profile. You are an amazing woman.
Best wishes. Stay safe and well.
Anne, thank you for your response and for also reading my profile. Nursing will always be my first love
You can relearn as you've stated. Some things in nursing have changed but not the core things
Looking at back pain is an amazing concept. You can go down the route of musculoskeletal, passive and active exercises, sports related injuries and then give tips of a red flags nature.
Consequently, Gastroenterology is also much broader and it can provide so much knowledge for a long time as well.
You have 2 interesting topics to explore .
The world is your oyester:)
I understand your questions, I understand the things that go through your head, believe me, it was like that for me in the beginning. Niche have to be something you really like, something you are very interested in, and want to know or know a lot about.
Don't put too much pressure on your head. We have to be relaxed, when we are relaxed we make the best decisions.
As for the blog, don't pay too much attention to what people will say, Simply write what you want to share with all of us, let it be from the heart. Whatever you wish for some success in life, completed training.
Just always at the end when you write a blog check the grammar.
I wish you good luck here and don't give up!
WA is a wonderful community and we are all here to help each other.
