The Power of Believing in Yourself

As I move onto the level 3 of my training here, on Wealthy Affiliate platform, I’m looking back on the ‘how's’ and ‘why's’, that got me here in the first place.

Growing up in the Eastern Europe in the 80s and 90s wasn’t easy. I vividly remember my mother trying to make ends meet. Too often did she have to say, that we won’t be having dinner that night. I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been for her to say those words to her kids. Look at their little, hungry faces and not being able to do anything about it. My brother And I have Learnt quite quickly not to ask why there wasn’t any food in the house, or when will we eat next. We, the kids, wanted to protect our mother from feeling ashamed.

When you grow up in poverty the only way is up. At least that’s what I always thought. Luckily enough I had the brains. I was good at school, so that’s what I concentrated all my efforts on. I've graduated from high school with the highest final exams score in my year. Better than 300 kids. That was something. I've received an award from the President of my city, a beautiful fountain pen, engraved with my name. Red pen, with Anna Borna, in gold. Oh, how I wanted to use that pen to write books! I was told, now, I could do anything. I could be anyone.

What I wanted to be was an artist. A great novelist, someone who’s word still be alive and mean something, after they’re long gone. Not all of us are blessed with being able to fulfill their dreams. Some of us have to stop dreaming, put the ambition aside and just get a job to help the family out. I couldn’t go to university, couldn’t afford it. Instead, I bought a one way ticket to another country, where I did the only thing I could, to make money- I got a job. I worked a horrendous amount of hours in the kitchen. I knew the basics, thanks to my mother. I was a quick learner, so it didn’t take me long to move up within the kitchen’s hierarchy. Eventually, my boss, seeing how good I was becoming at this cooking gig, has sent me to college.

I have graduated from a Coolinary School and went on with my life. I forgot my dreams of becoming a writer. Writing books didn’t make Money. What I didn’t realise back then was, how, not doing what I love, will affect my entire life. How being a chef was going to ruin, not only, my health, but also most of my relationships.

I worked as a chef almost 15 years and I would still be doing it, if it wasn’t for the deadly virus. Thanks to Covid-19 I have lost my job. I was faced with two options, wait for the pandemic to be over and get back to my old, sad life OR start over. If I don’t do this now, I never will, is what was going through my head. I’ve recently heard about affiliate marketing and thought that was it! Maybe, I never will be a famous, published author. Maybe, kids will never read my books in school. But maybe, just maybe, I can still write. And make money whilst at it?! That didn’t sound like a bad idea at all.

Here I am now, just finished Level 2 of my training and moving onto the next one. Thoughts this far: I am fascinated! I wake up every day excited about what am I gonna learn about from Kyle today. My first ever website is up and running, and yes, it's a mess, but it's just the beginning. We can't be perfect straight away. Perfection takes time. All I can say is, that I am proud of myself for trying. You will never know, what you’re capable of achieving until you try.

We all know the Adidas campaign that thought us, that IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING. We were being bombarded with it. How true is it thought, when you implement it here. Impossible, really is nothing, when you believe in yourself, when you set a goal and work HARD towards it. I believe in myself. You should believe in yourself too. Together, within the Wealthy Affiliate platform, we can make our dreams come true!

I'm so happy I have stumbled across your profile today Anna. I too worked as a chef for the past 8 years and Covid-19 took that away from me as well. Then starting in March 2020 I discovered affiliate marketing, I bought a Chromebook with one of my meager Employment Insurance cheques vowing to make this my new "job". I've not made a penny online but I realize it's not a get quick rich industry. I realize I must do the training and not skip the steps so beautifully laid out for us here in Wealthy Affiliate. Thanks for the inspiration Anna and I'm gonna get back to my training.

Inspiring story, so your hero's journey! People love being authentic so I am sure you bring that to your content as well. Thanks for sharing and a mess is a good start! Ask any artist. Onwards, Phil

Great speech, great article. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I believe but most important I find is the Why's vs the How's. The How's will come progressively. Welcome to WA, wish you well and every success in all your endeavors.

Thank you for sharing your inspiring story. Enjoy your journey and do what makes you happy. Welcome to the WA family and best wishes for your success.

Well written. Never give up on your dreams. In the beginning (and the end for that matter) all we have is ourselves. Hard work and persistence pays off. Keep up the good work 🤩
