Instagram has become one of the most popular social media platforms, with people using it to share photos, videos, daily life updates, and even businesses promoting products or services. However, something I have personally noticed is that Instagram often feels much more curated than real life.
When scrolling through Instagram, it is easy to come across perfectly edited photos, aesthetic lifestyles, expensive holidays, perfect relationships, and highly organised routines. While there is nothing wrong with sharing positive moments, I sometimes think Instagram only shows a very small and polished version of reality. People usually post their best moments rather than everyday struggles or normal parts of life.

Personally, I think this is one of the biggest differences between Instagram and platforms like TikTok or YouTube. Instagram often feels more focused on aesthetics and presentation, while other platforms can sometimes feel more casual or spontaneous. Even regular users, not only influencers, seem to carefully choose what they post.
I have also noticed that businesses and influencers on Instagram often create content that feels visually perfect. While this can look appealing, sometimes it can also feel overly polished or unrealistic. In my opinion, audiences are starting to connect more with content that feels relatable rather than content that looks too perfect.
At the same time, I do not think curated content is always a bad thing. Social media has always involved people sharing moments they enjoy or feel proud of. However, I think it is important to remember that Instagram is usually a highlight reel rather than a full picture of someone’s life.
Overall, I think Instagram feels more curated than real life because people naturally choose what they want others to see. From what I have noticed, while polished content can be visually appealing, audiences are increasingly valuing content that feels more genuine and relatable.
