Hey Wealthy Affiliate!
I'm Zavian, and today I'm taking over from Signal & Strategies team for a little Wealthy Affiliate content-writing session.
My department at S&S is Content Writing and Storytelling, where I focus on something pretty simple: helping people create content that sounds human, communicates clearly, and gives the actual reader an actual reason to keep reading.
So today, I want to talk about something many beginners struggle with:
How Do You Find Your Writing Voice?
When you first start blogging, it's easy to look at successful websites and think you need to write like them.
You might make your sentences more formal. You might use words you wouldn't normally say. You might try to sound "professional."
And suddenly, your article doesn't sound like you anymore.
Your Writing Voice Is Already There.
Your writing voice isn't something you have to manufacture from scratch.
Think about how you naturally explain something to a friend. You probably have certain expressions you use, a particular sense of humour, ways of explaining things, and opinions you naturally bring into conversations
That personality can exist in your writing too.
You don't need to write exactly like another blogger to create good content.
Start By Writing The Way You Speak.
That doesn't mean turning every article into a transcript of a conversation.
It means asking yourself: "Would I actually say this?"
If the answer is no, look at the sentence again.
For example. Instead of:
"Individuals seeking to establish an online presence may benefit considerably from implementing a strategic content creation process."

You could simply say:
If you are building a website, having a content plan can make things much easier."
Same basic idea. Completely different feeling.
The second version feels easier to understand because it sounds like someone is actually talking to the reader.
Don't Be Afraid of Your Personality.
Your personality can become of what makes your content memorable.
Maybe you're funny.
Maybe you're analytical.
Maybe you love telling stories.
Maybe you explain complicated subjects in a ridiculously simple way.
Those qualities aren't distractions from your content. They can become part of your identity as a blogger.
Of course, your personality should still fit your audience and topic. But there is a difference between adapting your writing for your readers and completely removing yourself from it.
Read Your Old Writing.
Here's one of my favourite exercises.
Go back to something you wrote several months ago.
Don't look at the SEO.
Don't look at the formatting.
Just read it and ask:
- Does it sound like me?
- Which parts feel natural?
- Which parts feel forced?
- What expressions do I naturally use?
- Am I trying too hard to sound professional?
You might start noticing patterns.
Those patterns are clues to your writing voice.
Your Voice Develops With Practice.
You won't probably discover your perfect writing voice after publishing your first article.
And that's completely fine.
Your voice can change as you gain experience, learn more about your audience, and become more confident.
The goal isn't to find a permanent formula.
The goal is to become comfortable enough with your writing that readers can recognise you behind the words.
Because ultimately, blogging isn't just about putting information onto a webpage.
It's about creating a connection between the person writing and the person reading.
And sometimes, the most useful thing you can add to your content isn't another keyword.
It's your human voice.
