Should I be changing the meta description for every post?
Currently I have "post excerpt" - not sure what that means exactly.

Some varied answers here, Anne!

Jeff

Yes, definitely.

😎👍

Very good question. I am revisiting my older posts, and I am doing some spring cleaning, exchanging the excerpts out with the ones I wrote myself. I need to optimize my SEO. You got some good responses from Shannon and Geroge.

Roy

Hi Roy,
I agree, great responses from both.
Good luck with your spring cleaning. I'm doing the same.

You can use the except or change it.

Your meta description is for SEO ranking and to inform your readers what your post is about. It should contain your keyword phrase and be enticing and purposeful so when it show in the search results its description will stand out and people will want to choose it as opposed to others.

To get some ideas of what they look like, do a search in Google for your keyword phrase. The description below the title will be the meta description. Sometimes the search engines create their own and don't present your post meta description.

Thank you for the explanation. Very helpful.

Great!

If you use the post excerpt it will basically just take the first 160 characters of your post and use that as the description, which is why the training teaches us to use your keyword within the first paragraph, or first 100 words of the post.

I choose to write my own description for each post. It is however, a good idea to try to use your keywords in the description and any other information that you think would draw a reader in.

Here are some good pointers: Best, Shannon

This is excellent, very helpful.
Thank you very much.

Good tip, Shannon. Working on my SEO and Meta tags as we speak. Need to do some "spring cleaning" :-)

Thanks Shannon

Everything Wordpress

I have posted an article 2 hours ago and it's still not showing on my website.
Any suggestions why not?

Hi you are needing empty browsers cache, try URL in a different browser or mobile device.

Further related info

If you edited a document in site content and published it, future edits has to be done in WordPress. Site content and WordPress work independently.

I'd place my images in a document in site content and publish it to my site. it will be added to my WordPress media library.

That worked.
Thank you so much.

So very welcome.
