My first three weeks
Well I've just about made it to three weeks in Wealthy Affiliate. What a mind-blowing three weeks it's been.
Those who have read my profile will know that I came into this programme, having had a terrible 18 months. Suddenly my mind has come back to life again.
I'd already been learning a bit about the internet, so at least I have a reasonable understanding of the code within the website (and don't get freaked out by the Text tab when creating a post / page). But now I've actually had the opportunity to create a site myself - no longer just theory from a book. Back in my teaching days I used to teach a module to 14-year-olds on web design. I cringe now at some of the wrong things I taught them, and know how much better a job I could do now.
I decided to start my first website on something I knew a fair bit about, to take the stress off the writing. So the old-time nerd came out in me and I created doctorwhoproducts.com - now I have a formal excuse to watch my dvds - I'm researching for work!
I've gradually added things most days. I've found that the nature of my topic made my posts more important than my pages, I don't need particularly much static material, it needs to change very regularly.
I have plans for about 10 other sites eventually - although I will have to get much more efficient in writing before I can do that.
Ultimately I intend to set up a site with resources for Accounting teachers. I wrote my own books of notes, exercises and answers while teaching which are now sitting forlorn and unused. When I eventually get time I need to update and internationalize them, and turn them into e-books.
I thank everyone who I have met on here, and am proud to have followed (and been followed by) you. I returned to Google + for the first time in years, today, and welcome anyone here to follow me there: https://plus.google.com/108399537084428947169
So, over, it's been a great three weeks. Long may it continue.

lovely niche, well funky site- is that The Tardis beckoning me in as your background image? LOL, Andy
Hi Andrew. Congratulations on getting your first site up and running.
Just a couple of things - your post - how do you organize your Dr Who DVDs - you need to go back and break up the paragraphs - solid blocks of text are hard to read.
Personally I would also align the pictures to the right - not the left as you have them. Left alignment of images actually makes it hard to read text for people who read left to right as it breaks up the flow. (Feel free to ignore this bit of advice!)
Nice start. :) Beverley
Thanks for the suggestions, Beverley. I'll go back in and have a rethink of my layout of these posts.
