Setting Yourself Deadlines

What Is Going On?

When starting out I found that it’s easy to start writing content for your blog in the beginning, but as time goes by you have moments where you lose momentum and are not writing as much as you could on a weekly basis. Don’t worry, we all do it, it’s just a matter of picking yourself up and getting motivated to keep going!

It’s easy to procrastinate when working for ourselves and we find that is our own lessened action which sets us back. When trying to meet our quota’s we can fail to meet that aim and then feel bad for not making it, so we try to make up for it by doubling down next week but by then we feel overwhelmed.

How frustrating…

But we can turn this around!

Why Do We Procrastinate?

A key reason is because we don’t set deadlines for our goals. Maybe you forget you set a deadline, or you’re not getting anywhere right now and it’s putting you off. Maybe the kind of deadlines you set are unrealistic and you’re too hard on yourself, or you’re not driven enough, or not passionate enough. Maybe the deadline intimidates you and you feel you can’t do it, or because this is on you you don’t feel any urgency to do it, or you’re trying to match others deadlines.

If you set yourself deadlines accordingly and ensure you meet those times/dates, you will feel a lot more organised, compared to going free flow and writing when you feel comfortable. Every step we take to achieve a goal is valuable, so don’t think missing one or two will be meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

How do we keep to our schedules and produce content?

This is more of a skill than anything, learning the art of being consistent for long ranges of time. Practice sticking to a couple of times a week, say, Tuesday and Thursday, to have content prepared for each of those days. Do this for a couple of weeks, then when you adjust to this, you can add however more deadlines you feel ok with that tailor around your schedule. Plus it’ll let readers know when to expect the next great piece of work you’ll produce.

Ignore what everyone else is doing, this is your thing, what you want to do, and you won’t enjoy it if trying to match other people’s expectations. Also if you want to make this a positive force in your life, you want to put your all into it and not give in to other distractions or fears. The more effort you put in, the more results you’ll see and start building something great over time. Even if there’s things you can work on, concentrated efforts will craft your content into pieces everyone can benefit from.

You’re Human, It’s OK!

It’s natural to feel rough and wary doing something big and original constantly, you’ll feel it at times. But the fact that you’re willing to take on the challenge shows persistence and dedication. You just got to keep going!

Firm in schedule, firm in deadlines, and firm in success! Good luck!

Do not try to set yourself deadlines that are unrealistic, you will put too much pressure on your shoulders and that overwhelming feeling will take over. Set realistic, achievable goals each week to accomplish what you need to and you’ll feel a lot better and accomplished.

Awesome post.....i am working on setting deadlines for myself to get more posts completed. This confirmed that i am on the right track. Thanks for sharing!

Great thanks

Cheers!

Glad you shared this! However, in contrast I'd like to add that it's the mindset behind meeting the deadlines that makes the deadlines relevant. When our chosen mindset had replaced those of fear, anxiety, procrastination, that new mindset rules.

Thanks for adding to the discussion! Agreed, once in a certain mindset it can be either good or bad depending on what your set to do. It's not easy, but forging the right mindset can change your perspective on things.

Awesome post!

Thanks a lot for sharing!

Wish you great success!

Bob
