Daily Lessons and Thanks 200!
I logged in today and got a notification badge that I was in the top 200 here at WA! Yay, that's fun and encouraging hearing. I am thankful to be a part of this community and thankful to have a platform like this to keep me moving forward on a daily basis. May today be a productive one :)
Logging in Daily
Waking up and feeling excited to get on my computer and log has quickly become a normal way of life for me. When you wake up with the intent to get some work done and you do that every day, you form a routine.
My routine is somewhat skewed in the way of TIME. The mornings are my peaceful "Me time" and I can work a whole 2 hours before the rest of the house wakes up. The rest of the day, I work at random finding bits of "me time" scattered through the day.
My "Me time" is usually spent being productive and is necessary for my happy existence.
Is time a commodity for you? Is it easy to come by? Do you have a busy schedule with hardly no time for yourself?
Time, for some people may be free as a bird, others, hard to come by. For me, like many others out there, time is somewhere in the middle.
My kids are home from school on summer break and my life runs on mommy time... all day long.
Mommy Time
What is mommy time? Mommy time runs my whole life day in and day out. Ha, ha. If mom sits down to have a cup of tea and write an article, my job first, is to make sure all my "mom duties" are done.
Having all the "mom boxes" checked first, gives me a lot better chances that mommy time turns into "me" time.
Mommy time means that even if I am on a roll with something, be it the housework, crafting, writing, or taking a much-needed break, that 9 times outta 10, I will be interrupted with something WAAAY more important than anything I am doing.
Kids come first, for example, my kid lost her dirty sock and cant find it anywhere but REALLY needs it!!!
Mom Solutions
So in the scenario where my kid looses her dirty sock, its important to note that this was a knee-high sports sock that she wore for 2 hours at basket ball practice the day before. She thought she had more but don't so she really needs to find this expensive rare sock.
Mom solution: Calmly say, I'll help you look.
My kid proceeds to freak out and with a smile, I tell her we can buy more, they make em every day. "Oh but mom"! This one is so important to her tho. "If we don't find it, surely I will find it later when I am cleaning house", I say. "Meanwhile, Let's backtrack and think of where you were when you took them off".
My kid says... "I don't know"
When you hear the words "I don't know" from your kid you know that most of the time, what they are really saying is that they don't want to be bothered or don't want to think or talk about it.
Back to the sock scenario...
My kid had no idea where she took her socks off. So of course I start thinking out loud to her, places she would normally leave them. Rattling off a list of key spots: By your shoes, side of your bed, chair in the living room, bathroom floor, your backpack. One of them is a hit, others, a miss. Okay great, so they must be by your bed. My kid says "but I already looked there" LOL, okay, I say. "Let's have a look anyways".
Where was the sock?
Yep, it was right there, at the foot of her bed, in her blankets. So funny! She was being lazy and tired after practice and took them off while laying down and prolly kicked them outta the way. My guess is she found her other one on the floor and tossed it in the clothes hamper not bothering to find its match.
Random Story
So maybe my little story added some entertainment or maybe you were a bit like, boring, why is she talking about a dirty sock? Honestly not sure why that particular story popped up in my head. That actually happened a couple years ago. The thing I do know, is that I can use about any story as a learning experience and apply it to what we do here.
The sock story as an analogy
If that sock memory was a website, forgotten and missing but still there, within the Google Brain somewhere, someone may find it. Keep your old websites hosted, they may become relevant again and even make you money.
Sometimes we need to dig into the past and learn from it, update those memories, update those old posts/websites ;)
Socks, mommy skills, and top 200
My mommy skills have set me up perfectly to make it in the top 200 here. How is that, you may be wondering? I am great at finding solutions and answers. I mean, around my house it seems I am the person with magical powers who can find just about anything missing in a matter of 10 seconds, even when others have looked. I am the person who solves problems of boredom and arguments as well as a multitude of other things.
My top 200 skill sets include multitasking, being available at random times and following through. ALWAYS follow through!
What is following through?
Following through is helping others solve problems and finding answers. Helping others through encouragement and thank you's. Checking in on people in the community. Saying hello and greeting new members.
Do just a little every day to show that you care.
Missing sock story can teach us that...
- Sometimes you have to dig for an answer.
- Sometimes you have to deal with frustrations to get to the desired result.
- Two years later, your old forgotten website might pop up like a lost memory and earn you $.
- Customers are in search of something too, you can be the solution.
- Community members might feel lost or confused and deserve a helping hand.
- They make socks every day so Let's make posts every day, Let's make it easier for our customers to find us! :)))
- Expensive socks are worth more than cheap ones. Let's add value to our websites!
- Follow through and accomplish what you set out to do.
- If you don't find it or figure it out the first time, don't give up it might be the next place you look or the next thing you try.
- Don't let yourself get frustrated okay, ask for help first
- There are too many options out there to fail unless you simply quit trying.
- The feeling of reward, no matter how small, is substantial and worth celebrating.
There are a ton more and sure enough you can all come up with a few. Do you have any short stories you can share that has helped to teach you something in life? Of course you do right, we all do. Please, share a good lesson with us here. We are listening and supporting you.
Great job WA community! Be proud of yourself and others for accomplishing goals big and small, and for supporting one another!
Cheers to celebrating all of us,
-Amelita
