Your point is well taken, but allow me to offer a converse view. One of the best ways to stayed motivated and interested in what you're doing is to have a community of like minded people supporting you in your endeavors. People that know what you're going through and can help you work through things in your mind.
It's definitely a balance, and there are definitely people who spend too much time focused on the community and not their business. But the community participation is equally valuable. I can say this from experience as one who has tried frequently to do things on my own.
