I could write a training class on how not to be successful. I thought i knew too much. The truth is I have been working WordPress for over 20 years. The real truth is I don't know any thing about internet marketing. Since I live on Social Security I chose that as my niche. Bad mistake. I worked on it for five months an nobody eve logged in.I went back and went 1 step at a time, reworked the site and still no hits. I finally figured if you mention Social Security anywhere in your site Google is going to hand you 10 pages of sites all written By The Department of "what Evet". you can't break through.
I decided to change my niche to something I really love, Telling Funny Stories. Some I embellish a little but they will all be what I enjoy so I really don't care if I ma e a dime.
