Pretentious? Taciturn? Spasmodic?

Many people here at WA are of course quite intermittent with their activity within the community. It is the nature of the 'modern life is rubbish' beast. Simply not enough hours in the day and if you are like me, you have too many distractions to remain focused (which is why I wrote a previous post on taking small steps and essentially, remaining positive).

I have the good fortune of being head-hunted by an ex-colleague of mine, who set up his own English Language Academy in 2012 down in Valencia He wants me to take up the position as Director of Studies and I have been giving this some serious thought for a while now. Yesterday we spoke at length about what needed to be done and on ideas on how to increase custom, what types of courses could be added, etc. I had not realised just how savvy Jasper was in terms of how to go about marketing his school and indeed his unique brand, which he has really begun to establish over the last year.

Keyword Research; Social Networking; Acquiring domains; Making video; Building up client trust; Blog posts for SEO; Offering freebies; Creating quality content.

Jasper graduated in Marketing and Management many years ago and being young (late 30's) and energetic, it is no surprise that he is knowledgeable on how to go about creating a successful business and promoting the school. We discussed many matters related to increasing business, as well as a few pedagogical ones (which is more my area of expertise).

Now, I am no businessman or marketing guru, but rather a musician and teacher. However, I am proud to say that I held my own during our 90 minute phone call and this is primarily due to the knowledge that I have gleaned here at WA. There is still masses to learn and take action on, but I know I am on the right camino and that there is no fast route to success. Patience and piano, piano (as the Italians would say).

Taciturn? No. Spasmodic? Yes. Pretentious? Moi!
