About AlanP1
Joined November 2016
I'm a 72 year old retired Financial Advisor, who is the proud grandfather to four boys who all live within 30 minutes drive. My passions are walking, listening to traditional jazz, visiting the theatre and drinking the odd glass of wine or pint (or two) of real ale. I am an ex Rugby Union referee and now spend my summers umpiring cricket throughout the Midlands area of the UK. I have been married to Angela for over forty five years and am now looking to supplement my income and, hopefully, establish a robust online business which, in time, could be further developed and expanded by, potentially, one of the younger members of the family!

Good morning, Alan! Actually where you are it is likely afternoon by now. :) Thank you for following me. I shall gladly follow you, as well. Your plan to build a robust online business to maybe leave as a legacy for your children or grandchildren is excellent. You have given me a new way to look at what I am doing here! I wish you all the best for reaching your goals! Thanks, again!

Vow!! I can see that you are a great cricket umpire, just by the indication of the hat which you're wearing on your profile image. Apart from your passions, I can perceive that you also love sports and your family, thank you for being a good father.

Thank you so much for following me, I am also following you.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the follow
Good on you mate active in Summer and Winter. I played both codes of rugby but mainly league. I played a few years of RA RA cause it was great socially, but being an ex rugby league hooker I found it difficult to adapt to union scrums. I couldn't pack down with a loose arm. I couldn't have my feet way across to my outside props legs etc. So for the first 3 or 4 games I use to get penalised like you know what? I could go on all day but I don't want to bore you.
A mate of mine went to England years back to play cricket. He ended up marrying a lovely English lass he met while in the UK. He was fortunate enough to win a title with Northamptonshire.
The Earl of Spence filled the lads up with Moet after the game.
Geoff Cook is his name. Cooky is now back in OZ but he did get a run for England (not sure how he did) and was 12th man. I think Alex Stewart was the captain at the time and he bought him on to field at one point of time and It was against Pakistan. I still remember Cooky (a great bloke) in that game dropping a catch.
But I shouldn't talk, I still remember the day I dropped a catch on a hat trick.

Cheers
Alan and all the best
Brad

I was fortunate enough to retire at 61, but am also looking to supplement my income. I do have to admit, for me it's more about building the business with a good system in place that I can transfer over to my kids and grandkids at some point.

Welcome to WA...sounds like you had an interesting life.

I played rugby here in the US into my 50's...my regret is we did not start to play here until college...did not even hear of it back then. There are a few programs into high schools now. It is such a great game and wonderful fraternity/family of friends/players here in the US now also.

I did get to England, Wales and Spain on tours...a great time had by all. The hosting teams were very accepting and accommodating...some of their players have come here over the years to visit and play a match or two.

I played in Cincinnati, Ohio for Queen City. I miss playing and practicing every day. I still putter around a pitch for an old boy game a couple of times a year. It keeps us young I think. It sound like you still stay quite active an in shape.

Enjoy your time here....and good luck.

Dave, many thanks for your interesting comments.

I'm a big fan of Northampton Saints RFC. One of their best players over the last few years (who now plies his trade in France) was Samu Manoa, who was spotted playing for San Francisco Golden Gate (I think) by a Saints fan who was on holiday!

Samu's 'day job'was laying tarmac!!

Hello Alan, very nice to meet you. Thank you for the follow. What a blessing for you to live so close to your boys. My favourite passtime used to be telling Rugby Referee's where they had gone wrong. unfortunately I can no longer do that anymore, as the games has changed so much, (for the poorer, in my opinion) that now I don't know the rules. Ah well, there is always the cricket!
Good day to you Sir.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for the follow.

You know, one nice thing about internet marketing, and especially affiliate marketing is that it's much easier to pass on to your loved ones without having to worry about taxes, probate, and all the mess.

Simply sign it over to them, they change all the bank account information for where payments should start arriving and bang, it's done !!

Gotta love it.

Alain, nice to hear from you. I look forward to getting to know you my new WA friend.

I see you are a real ale fan. Me too and add to that draft. I grow my own hops and brew our beer. My partner does the cider making. Last year he used some hops in one batch of cider and people raved about it.

My first year of brewing I entered on of each type of beer in the local competition. I got two seconds ahead of many long term brewers. So I guess I could offer you one if you ever get to this neck of the woods.

Work hard, have some fun and don’t forget to ask questions.

A very nice boss once told me, ‘Helen, when you ask a silly question everyone else breathes a collective sigh of relief because they don’t have to!’ And that is so true. No question is silly so ask away.

If I can’t help I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Now let us keep in

Ciao

I hope things are going well. I know you are getting rolling within the training and there is ONE thing that always tends to confuse people and that is "what is my niche?".

I know, same thing happened to me when I started.

I just wanted to reach out and let you know that I am here if you ever want to run any niche "ideas" by me or you have any questions about finding your niche.

Get back to me when you get the chance! :)

Hi Kyle

I have managed to come up with not one, but two niches!
I will have to consider if they are, perhaps, a little 'broad' but at least I know the direction I will now be taking. Incidentally, I will be working on just one niche at a time as I do not want to spread my time too thinly. I feel there are exciting times ahead!

Focus on just ONE website and create success with that before diversifying and creating multiple niche websites.

It only takes ONE website in one niche to be very successful online. I usually find that folks that try to do too much at once (focus on several niche websites) end up in a state of mediocrity because it can be overwhelming and you don't really ever become the expert in just one niche.

It is the experts (specialists) that create long term, successful businesses in any niche.

Good to hear from you Kyle - I've had very little time to devote to WA in the last 24 hours but I believe I've found my first niche. I just need to do some research tomorrow before, hopefully, I 'push the button'.

Awesome to hear Alan!

When deciding on a niche and trying to narrow down to a more specific niche, I recommend you ask yourself the following question:

I want to help people that ______________.

Fill in the blank and you are going to be much closer to a specific audience. After you do this and if you want to run any further ideas by me, let me know and I will give you a hand. :)

Kyle - the blank is...'love walking'. I am/was an avid walker, having walked extensively in the UK and on the beautiful island of Madeira. I've also walked to a peak above Everest Base Camp 1.
My age and my cricket umpiring activities during the summer now restrict my walking and I have concerns about how best I would ultimately 'monetize' the niche. Any help and/or guidance would be very much appreciated.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Many thanks

Awesome, love it. You can definitely head in either one of these directions, choose the one you are most passionate about and move forward from there. ;)

Lucky you - off to Japan for the Rugby World Cup! I see the All Blacks got their revenge against Ireland last weekend. England are steadily improving with Eddie Jones at the helm. Take care.
