Addressing Climate Change And Hope For Agreements To Solve Other Global Problems in 2022
It is almost the end of November 2021, and I find myself already focussing on my activities for the New Year 2022. I am generally optimistic about the future for the world, following the COP 26 Climate Change Conference recently concluded in Glasgow.
Having worked internationally for many years in different parts of the world, I was never so aware of borders and boundaries in the same way that I am aware at the end of 2021.
The Covid 19 pandemic has brought a new focus on national rules and national boundaries, which is still having a dramatic effect all around the world. This situation was already experiencing some reversion towards nationalism in many places prior to the pandemic.
However, one thing that has been the subject of a common albeit fragile accord has been the global need to address climate change, as a result of the prolonged and continuing habit of burning fossil fuels. At least nations can agree on the principle that action is required, albeit, that there is a divergence of view about the extent of specific measures in and by each country, such as the need to stop and reverse deforestation. If all the countries of the world are able to come together in order to solve this particular problem of climate change, then I am hopeful that with the same spirit of cooperation and goodwill then many other problems will be able to be resolved in due course.
There is an urgent need to address so many problems in the world that I hope that 2022 will bring progress and some relief to people experiencing real immediate problems and hardship from such things as hunger, water shortages and lack of clean water supply, religious and racial discrimination, political oppression, affordable housing shortages, employment problems, pollution, and numerous other local problems.
I hope that 2022 will bring people of all nations together to make plans to solve these immense problems in the foreseeable future, in the same way, that there has been a fragile agreement on climate change.
