Scientists believe that Coronavirus or what is known as “COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2 spreads through inhaling respiratory droplets that are released when an infected person coughs or sneezes. Also, you can get infected by touching an infected surface and then touch your eyes nose or mouth.

In order to tackle the spread of the virus, many countries around the world suspended all public gathering, schools, universities, indoor sports like gym or yoga classes, or even outdoor activities.

Like many people, one might think, should I go to the gym and risk getting infected with virus? The answer is a big NO because you’re not only putting yourself in danger, you are also risking the lives of those who are close to you.

In this post we will be talking about Coronavirus and gym, and some ways in which we can do our part to stop the spread of the virus.

Coronavirus at the Gym

As we stated above the virus spreads directly from person to person through close contact, or indirectly via the contact with surfaces that have been touched by an infected person.

According to Dr. Philips Tierno at New York University, Gyms in particular offer both direct and indirect transmission, you can see the danger imposed by public places, where you deal with hundreds of people every day. Those places increase the chances of you getting sick with an outbreak such as coronavirus.

“In general, gyms are full of germs especially the equipment as they are being used by

hundreds daily. So, if an infected person leaves their germs on gym equipment such as barbells, dumbbells, cardio equipment, and even door handles at the gym, those germs can survive for days, if the equipment is not cleaned well” Dr. Tierno.

Some might say the odds of contracting the virus also depend on where you live, and whether there are confirmed cases in your area. They might be right but just like other public places, a gym could easily house a coronavirus. Not having confirmed cases in your area does not necessary mean that you cannot get infected.

All we are saying that let’s be careful, and if you do not care about yourself be considerate and think about those who are close to you.

You can still Workout

Avoiding public places like gyms does not necessarily mean that you have to skip workout. It is important during outbreaks that you be aware and use extra precautions, but you should keep up your normal workouts because it is valuable from a health perspective. Also, it is important for your immune system, where exercising can help boost it, so it can fight infections which very important for everyone during outbreaks.

There are many ways you can keep up your normal workout routine without going to the gym; for example, you can start working out at home using dumbbells and small bars or you can head outside and go for a run around your home.

Doing that will do your body and mind some good, and you should know the best defense against coronavirus is personal hygiene which means that you should keep your hands clean all the time. If you go out for a run take disposable gloves with you, and when you get home get rid of them then wash your hands with soap.

Be Kind to Others

” check in on your neighbors, call that friend you have not talked to in some time. Drop off a food package to that elderly person that lives alone. Make amends with rival. Trails like this can inspire us to be better human beings in ways normalcy cannot” Khaled Beydoun.

Let’s be a force for good and stop spreading misinformation about the outbreak. There are elderlies who takes all the lies spreading throughout social media seriously which will result in the spread of fear and panic among people

Work out outdoors if possible, for now. If you absolutely need a gym, go to one that you know and is disinfected. Avoid gym hopping.

Good information, my friend--hand washing is key, it seems!

Jeff

It is, people invest more on masks where hands are more important , you go or take the elevator you don’t know who was in it before you and whether they are infected or not ... touching surfaces in public place is more dangerous

I agree!

Well said:) Hand washing is vital, and for at least 20 seconds. I don't go to the gym, but exercise by walking. Lets hope this crisis helps make people kinder to one another:) Kathy

i hope so Kathy, stay safe
