How a Fairy Tale Can Make You Rich!

How It Started

Today’s message began as a conversation I was having with my friend Tiffany (@TDomena) about marketing and sales. By the way, she is an incredibly bright, beautiful, and amazing person, and if you are not following her you’re crazy!

Anyway, we discussed how, regardless of what you call it (sales, marketing, affiliate, etc.), it really boils down to influence. And this got me to thinking…

Everything we do involves influence. If we are selling something, naturally we use influence. If we want our partner to go to the movies, we use influence. If we want our kids to tidy up their room, this takes a ton of influence. lol

But saying we must influence others is one thing. Actually knowing how to do it is a whole different matter.

Fortunately, there is a short-cut. Believe it or not, there is one simple “Jedi” mind trick that not only works every time, but works faster than any other technique of influence I have ever seen.

Now, put on your jammies and slippers, pull up a nice warm cup of cocoa (with tiny marshmallows, of course), and get ready for storytime...

Penelope's Hand

Once upon a time, there lived a young woman, Penelope, who was friends with two friendly young men — Roberto and Logan. She liked them both very much, and both were interested in taking their friendship with her to the next level.

In a moment of pure coincidence, Roberto and Logan both proposed to Penelope at the same time. “Oh my goodness,” she thought, “I care for them both equally. What is a poor girl to do?”

At that very moment, Penelope’s Fairy Godmother gently floated down from the clouds and asked her why she looked so forlorn.

“I’m afraid I have been asked to offer my hand to both Roberto and Logan. I am not sure which one I should marry. What am I to do?”

Her Fairy Godmother simply smiled and said, “Penelope, it is a rather simple decision. When you decide the one thing you like most about each of them, then you'll know which one you should marry.”

Well, Penelope wasn’t quite sure what to make of this particular advice. Indeed, it seemed to her like no advice at all. She was hoping the Fairy Godmother would just tell her which one to choose.

Nevertheless, Penelope took her task seriously, went to the top of a hill, and sat under a mighty oak. She sat for several hours thinking about which suitor she would like to spend the rest of her life with.

Suddenly, as if struck by a bolt of lightening (or Fairy Godmother magic), Penelope shot up and ran down the hill as fast as she could, nearly tripping several times on her flowing skirt.

Upon arrival, exausted and almost out of breath, she revealed to the entire village that she had reached her decision: She was going to marry Logan.

“Well done,” her Godmother said, “And why did you choose Logan?”

Penelope began, “Once I thought about it, the decision was as clear as the village lake in Winter.”

“Oh,” her Godmother replied. “Why is that?”

“Just as you said it would be, it was really quite simple. When I thought about Roberto, I realized that every time I was with him it was incredible. I had the time of my life. He was amazing. And he always made me feel like he was the most incredible person in the world.”

“Interesting. Well, he sounds absolutely wonderful,” her Godmother replied, “so why did you choose Logan?”

“Ah, that too is simple. When I thought about Logan, I realized that every time I was with him it was incredible. I had the time of my life. He was amazing. And he always made me feel like I was the most incredible person in the world.”

Conclusion

Did you catch the secret? Incredibly, it really just came down to one word, didn't it?

When you are creating content for your site, never forget this lesson. When you get so caught up on how your site looks, what you’re saying, and the image you are projecting to your audience, you are just like 99% of every other website out there.

And you are costing yourself money!

Instead, if you focus on the reader, pay attention to their wants and needs, and — most importantly — help them feel good about themselves, you will win them over and make more sales than you ever dreamed of.

Call it what you will. Sales. Influence. Management. Romance. A rose by any other name, right?

The key to all of it is to make the other person feel like they are the most incredible person in the world.
