Twitter Hashtag Secrets. Twitter doesn't make sure you know

We all know hashtags are great and it is key to utilize them on Twitter. What most don't know is the training that is out there isn't 100% accurate for engagement and is just geared towards teaching people to get followers. Why is this bad? It isn't but there is a difference in followers.

What do I mean?...

With those tactics you do get followers, but this isn't the same as targeted followers that have a higher potential of giving engagement.

What are some of the tactics that just gives followers?

Using the #followback and other hashtags in your profile and wording along those lines. I talk more about this and how to structure your Twitter profile bio over on my post on my website here: http://obisuperaffiliate.com/twitter-profile-bio-g...

People will also teach to use as many hashtags as you can get in with the character limit.

Why are these tactics bad?

Sure it is a matter of opinion, but just like keywords you can also spam with hashtags. It may pick you up traffic. That traffic though will not be targeted to your purpose of your tweet. Believe it or not people are getting smarter on Twitter and when they see excessive use of hashtags they associate with someone that isn't about value but about spamming whatever it is they are trying to push.

The first Twitter hashtag tip

Twitter gives you traffic for all the hashtags you use. This is correct. What they don't tell you is after the 2nd hashtag they don't really pay too much attention to your other ones.

So my first tip to you is get into the habit of only utilizing two hashtags. You want to make sure these two hashtags are relevant to the tweet content and has a decent amount of people using the hashtags.

How do you know the number of use of a hashtag?

This brings us into tip #2, utilize Instagram. 90% of the time I have it where my Instagram posts to my Twitter also.

How do you use it to tell you the number of people using a hashtag? With Instagram when you put in the #[word(s)] beside it will tell you the count using it.

Wouldn't these stats only be relevant to the hashtag use on Instagram? Some may think that, but no. Most hashtags used on another social media account is also being used on Twitter. Always think of hashtags as a type of keyword.

What number stat is good for hashtags. I usually tell people you want more then 2.5k stats for the hashtag. There is a but in this though. If for relevant to content and is still targeted try not to go lower then 500. Just keep in mind anything under 2.5k may hit people to react and engage or it may not. If you can get 10k+ for a hashtag stat, I have never found it not to produce some type of engagement from it.

Even if this stat technique doesn't seem to do anything for you, it will.

How to structure your tweets with the 2 hashtag technique

I am going to pull a random motivational quote and show you the way normally most people would do hashtags before this technique.

"If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been." —Robert Schuller #motivation #nofear #quote #robertschuller

From that example you can see that sure it has hashtags. Those hashtags probably fall in lines with the hashtag stats tip. What you can also see is how they are general to the tweet and that is really it.

Here is the 2 hashtag technique having a person just learning the technique in mind.

"If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been." —Robert Schuller #motivation #nofear

or

"If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been." —Robert Schuller #motivation #robertschuller

Now both ways does utilize only the 2 hashtag technique. The hashtags we will assume fall inline with the hashtag stat tip. Still with both the hashtags are general to the tweet.

How are they general?...

Let's take a look at the first hashtag, #motivation or it could of even been #motivational, either way the hashtag is general. Yes we know it is a quote and is a motivational one at that. Unless you are a person that is in the motivational niche or looking to target people that like motivational stuff it won't benefit you too much. Even then it is so broad that I would still call this a general hashtag even if you were in that niche.

Now lets look at the second ones, #nofear and #robertschuller, both are general. How are they? Well the #nofear one is sort of to context of the tweet, but it is to broad. How? the hashtag #nofear is used for many things not just quotes. Due to this you aren't targeting and it won't benefit you for engagement. With the second one it is just hashtaging the quote author. Unless you want to target him and his followers for whatever reason, this is a general hashtag.

So how do you do the 2 hashtag technique correctly and targeted?

Let's take a look at another example.

"If you listen to your fears, you will die never knowing what a great person you might have been." —Robert Schuller #10x #believeinyourself

Now I know of hashtags that target specific type of people. The #10x hashtag is one of them. It targets Grant Cardone's 10x Rule readers. How is this relevant and targeted? These people are entrepreneurs. One of my target audience is entrepreneurs. So with that this quote I know could appeal to them.

Now the second one with #believeinyourself. How is this targeted and not general? When in doubt on your second keyword and you can't use the keyword #success (as it wouldn't be relevant) use one that strikes an emotion in your target audience. This is why it is key for at minimum one of your hashtags to be spot on to your target audience for that tweet. By striking an emotion and already be targeting your audience to the tweet, it helps to raise your chances of engagement. How? For this example with the #10x people some maybe struggling to believe in themselves for what ever reason maybe that day, week, etc. They follow and or use the #10x for motivation and like minded people. Yours pops up with #believeinyourself along with it they are going to like, retweet, etc. because it is the emotion they needed to get striked at that time.

How is this relevant or important? You used your tweet to target your audience through relevance and use of a hashtag. You then did the same with the second hashtag but with that you meant their need. Meant their need? As the example from above you can see where people from the target audience were struggling with believing in themselves. From your tweet and use of hashtag, it grabbed their attention and that is what you want.

Can you add the hashtag within the tweet content?

Yes you can instead of putting them at the end.

Here is a quick example.

"You are only as successful, as those you help to be a success" - @jk_wardell #success #successful

or

"You are only as #successful, as those you help to be a #success" - @jk_wardell

Now if I was doing this, this is how I would do it so that I was targeting at least one target audience.

"You are only as successful, as those you help to be a success" - @jk_wardell #success #10x

or

"You are only as successful, as those you help to be a #success" - @jk_wardell #10x

or

"You are only as successful, as those you help to be a success" - @jk_wardell #success #entrepreneur

or

"You are only as successful, as those you help to be a #success" - @jk_wardell #entrepreneur

Okay how is this different then general hashtags that are relevant to the content of the tweet?

If you just go general and relevant to the content of the tweet. Like #motivation or #quote or even #motivationalquote. You are being a part of the noise in those areas.

After a while people stop paying attention to the noise, because it all sounds the same. I tone out commercials on TV or the radio because they all have the same purpose trying to sell me something. People will do this also with noise, they see it as someone trying to sell them something.

To be heard, engaged with, get a connection, etc. you have to be different than the noise. How do you do that? Be unique, stand out, be transparent, be you, and be consistent. The 2 hashtag technique along with the other tips is what will help you do this.

Does this 2 hashtag tips work for other social media sites?

Yes and no. Other sites you can get away with a few more and some you are told not to even both with, but I say why not won't hurt.

I plan on writing more in this series of hashtags for each social site that in my opinion everyone should be utilizing no matter what niche they are in. This also goes against the grain of what others say.

But remember to be heard above the noise, it isn't always going with the grain ;).

To your success,

JK, Jess, Wardell

Remember you are a success, we just gotta get people knowing who you are.

Useful info. I'm dreadful at thinking up hashtags and especially choosing ones that are highly relevant so this was pretty helpful.
