What's a good paid theme for a recipe/home advice site?

Hi Friends,

I have a site I converted from a blog when I joined WA. I got some feedback lately that the site would be helped a great deal by an updated magazine type theme, and I have to agree. We're ready to pay for one, but I wanted to know if anyone here has opinions about a good paid theme for a mostly, but not entirely, food-centric site. I haven't paid for a theme before so I'm a little wary.

Here's the URL for the site if anyone cares to look at it to get a feel for the sort of things we're posting: www.theabundanthome.net.

Thanks in advance,

Ahnna

I am using Studio Press, Genesis theme and I love it. :) You have a nice website, I like it. :)

I have a food blog, and I use the theme called Hueman, by Alx. It was free, you can see my blog here; http://cookingwithmicrowave.com/
I think it work well for this kind of blogs

I'm shopping for a new theme as well. I am using Times Pro (I paid for that one). I am changing because I have a hard time keeping my site from looking too busy. What I have been doing is going to appearances and then themes. You can search for the features you are looking for and possibly find one for free. It has helped me get more ideas as I search for various things. I have also been looking at themes online and then coming back to here to see if it is provided. Even if it isn't, there are some that show up in the results that are similar. What theme are you currently using?

I'm using the simple twenty twelve theme that I got here free. But I see someone's point that the site looks more like a blog than a website, and needs an update to a more modern magazine type. I like your idea of searching here first. I found some really nice foodie themes that I would be okay with paying for, but I'm a little nervous since our site isn't all about food. I don't really want to pay for something and then find that it doesn't work for our purposes.

I understand. Changing themes is a huge project so I feel like I need to research and have a vision of what I want for my site to look like before jumping in. Good luck!

Hello Ahnna. I really like StudioPress. I've bought a couple of themes from them. They have theme categories that you can browse through and great support. I've actually been thinking about getting a magazine style theme from them for my next niche idea. Check them out and see if you like the themes. There are live demos for each one: http://www.studiopress.com/. I've also heard that Elegant Themes (http://www.elegantthemes.com/) are good, but I have not personally used them.

Thank you!

You're very welcome.
