I Made a Weird Mistake

I'm going to try to keep this post as short as possible because I left my glasses at work and it is surprisingly more difficult to type this than I thought it would be.

Yesterday, I finished writing one of my articles and I felt pretty good about it. I felt so good in fact, that I decided to check on my stats to see if I had gotten indexed again. What I expected was 0 - 1, but I saw that I had gotten indexed 3 more times in one day.

I was shocked so I checked my email to see what articles got indexed. The first two made sense, it sometimes takes me a little over a week or two for the indexing to happen. The third one surprised me. "Affiliate Disclosure indexed". Whoops! Lol Dammit, how did I not fix that? I thought I had made sure my disclosure statement wasn't searchable and not to be indexed in Google.

It's strange that Google indexed my disclosure statement because I thought it was not unique content. Most of you have the disclosure statement on your websites, I assume, but then again, maybe you didn't make the same mistake I did and set it searchable by accident.

Word of advice to New Amazon Affiliates, make sure to have that disclosure statement on your website. It's already prewritten, you just have to add your website in the blank sections. BUT MAKE SURE YOU SET IT AS NO INDEX, NOT SEARCHABLE or something of that nature.

Anyway, I wasn't expecting my affiliate disclosure to get indexed, but I thought it was a funny story to tell nonetheless. Fixing the issue now, thanks for reading!

Mine got indexed even though it was set at no index. As long with my privacy policy. It was weird.

Good to know I'm not the only one

Yeah, Google follows directions at its whim. You create a meta description, Google MIGHT use it or it might use something else. Apparently, it decided to index it despite my instructions.

Do you have a lot of content? I wonder if Google is starting to recognize my site more and more since I have a lot more content now. Maybe they're just indexing anything that I type up since it's gaining more trust, u think that's the case?

Thanks, good thoughts for all of us to check.

Thanks for the the heads up.
I am sure Kyle says in the training to not set it as indexable as it is seen as duplicate content.
But always worth remembering to check...
