Nearing the End of Level 4 and a Question

Hi Everyone,

I've reached the point in level 4 of the entrepreneur training (the module on social media) where one of the tasks is to publish a blog on WA or ask a question - and I have a question:

The second suggestion for a blog update in that module of the training is to share, and here I quote: "Your website that you have created."

How do you do that without running foul of the spam police?

Cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin, Is it possible he means share your website to the right of the page, which would fall just below your profile pic and blog titles. I have not done this modul yet but I know some from the community list there website url to the right bottom corner and this does not constitute spam. In saying that, I am not totally sure how you post the url there. I will go see if I can figure it out and come back and let you know.
Mary

Hi me again, so if you click on your profile picture up in left hand corner, dble click I think, you will go to your profile, then at the bottom right hand corner you will see "New Blog" and under neath that you will see "Follow Me" this is where you share any of your websites that you want to share. I do think they have to be your site though. Hope this helps.
Mary - again

Hi Mary,

I hadn't noticed that option before - well spotted and thanks for digging it out :)

I think that is where you're supposed to put your social media links (FB, Twitter, etc), but I don't know.

But that is still not what he says in that module. Here are the relevant excerpts, copied from that lesson:

"...Task 1: Create a Blog Post Within WA (documenting your progress thus far)..."

(then some way down to...)

"...Here are some things you can share:

1. Your progress thus far
2. Your website that you have created
3. Something you have learned thus far.
4. A question that you may have.
5. Any successes (not just financial, but things you are proud of)
6. Your plans and goals in the upcoming 3 months
7. Your plans and goals in the upcoming 6 months..."

Point 2 makes it pretty clear to me that we're being encouraged to share our website in a WA blog post.

Cheers,

Martin

I see what you are saying Martin, but I also agree you are not suppose to post your URL in the blog area. Now saying that I am seeing more of it taking place, but I am also seeing older members complaining. So I don't know what to tell you on this one. Could he just be asking for a description. What lesson is this one, I know you have said somewhere but I can't find it. I don't remember. I know I have never posted my url anywhere. I am working on a do over, got board with my first site, so I started a new one but don't want to share till is has a good amount of content. I wish I could help you better, maybe pick a member in the top 25 ranking and see what they would do.

Hi Mary,

No one seems to have an answer to this..!

Never mind, I might ping Kyle so he at least knows there is some confusion being created with this task.

Cheers,

Martin.

Hi Martin.
Maybe he means you should post a blog on your WA page that is a copy of one you posted to your site. Just a thought.
KyleAnn

Hi KyleAnn,

I don't think he means that, because if we did that, then we would be would creating duplicated content: i.e. content on one website that also appears on another, on a different domain, and that is penalised by the search engines.

Cheers,

Martin.

Ahhh, you’re right. Obviously I haven’t made it to that step in level 4 yet!

Kyle has a post here that allows us to give comments and receive comments. I have never tried to put a link in my comments, so hopefully this works. This has been a great source of peer to peer review on my website and my posts. I hope it helps you. Joanne

Hi Joanne,

Thanks for responding! I'm aware of the comments post, but that's not my question.

I've fallen foul of the spam police in the past (when I was just starting with WA) for linking to a post on one of my sites (that had nothing to do with WA) that was purely an educational post. It was detailed, and designed to answer a question that I had come across on WA.

So, as a result of that experience, I'm under the impression that linking to any site I have created (whether educational or not) is a no no.

But when I got to the end of the current training module, I saw the suggestion to share the site I had created as part of my progress with WA, in a WA blog post (i.e. not as part of the comments post) - and that is the basis of my question.

If I do as tasked in that module, based on my understanding of the task, I'm going to be pulled up by the spam police - unless I'm misunderstanding the task assigned in that training.

That's where I'm asking for clarification.

Cheers,

Martin.

There have been people putting their website in a post asking, for various reasons. I think the main thing is not to try to drum up business on WA. If you would like help or want someone to look it over for advice, or just mention what you have learned and accomplished and adding in your website I don't think there has been a problem there.

I don't doubt that people have tried to drum up business within WA by placing links to their sites in WA blog posts or answers. But if the policy is to disallow that, then all links to all external websites should be banned - no exceptions.

As it stands now, when people who go through the course see a task that recommends that they create a WA blog post to share the website they have created, they are naturally going to interpret it as being OK to link to external websites.

That causes a problem.
