SiteComment Catastrophe

Okay, so this may sound nitpicky because my comment skip percentage is still at 99%, BUT I pride myself on my 100% average, so dropping a percentage point ticks me off...

Especially when the following happens:

The Scoop

I commented on another member's article, reading through the webpage and leaving a decently long, well-thought-out comment, even mentioning some of the things the writer mentioned in his review so he could tell I had read the whole post. (If you have had a comment on one of your sites from me, you know I leave pretty long comments that are meant to further the conversation and hopefully help your SEO ranking.)

The member whose site I commented on proceeded to disapprove of my comment, saying, "it was a complete fake and that no one would comment on a ***** review like this."

The Offending Comment

My comment broke down like this:

Thank you for the review. I recently broke my 2019 ******* and was looking to purchase a new one. I like the fact that my old **** did this, this, and this. I like that this **** also does this and this. Plus. I love that I can add more **** to this version of ****. Also, I can't wait to try out the *** feature because I have an issue with *** and this would fix it. Thanks for such a detailed review of the *****. (Note, the comment requestor did not request any questions in the comment)

My Deepest Apologies

NOTE: I apologize for the asterisks, but I am trying not to make it obvious who I talking about. (I don't even know whose site it is, but somebody might, and calling this person out is not the goal of this post.)

Silly Billy

The whole thing is really silly because he (or she, I suppose) could have edited the comment to say whatever he wanted it to in the end, but whatever, I am positive the comment was quality)

Stay in the Solution

ANYWAY.

I think there should be a button that allows you to challenge the member's comment disapproval. If the person does not want the comment on their site, so be it, but it should not ruin my comment ranking. A third party should review the comment to judge whether it was quality and if so, your commenter ranking should not be affected.

Mostly I am venting, but has anyone else had this happen to them?

Does anyone else think we should be able to challenge these?

Am I just being annoying? Wait, don't answer that last one, I already know!

Let's Tie This Together

"If you are not a part of the solution, you are part of the problem." African Proverb

So, to make this an actual post that could potentially have some useful content for those who are fortunate enough to land on my critically-acclaimed WA blog, (ya right :)) I would like to discuss the mindset addressed above. I am referring to "staying in the solution."

Through my 30 some odd years on this planet, I periodically collect little tidbits of wisdom that help propel me forward, closer to success in whichever endeavor I am working on. These endeavors are as diverse as getting off drugs to graduating from law school. All worhty endeavors, but each with its own set of difficulties.

One common thread running through every one of the challenges I face, however, is that I am never able to conquer the challenge if I get too caught up in the problem itself. Focusing on the solution (or answer, or goal) I am shooting for is the only way to succeed.

As far as affiliate marketing goes, many time I have been frustrated with my progress. I have asked many times, why am I not making money? Why can I not figure out how to do this on WordPress? Why does it seem others are having success faster than I am?

When these types of thoughts start to invade my brain, I try to take a step back. For example, instead of getting frustrated that I can not get my site to look the way I want it to, I reach out to community members at WA, or I search for a training on the subject and, lo and behold, I FIND A SOLUTION.

I find the information I need to make my site look the way I want it to. I double check my affiliate links are up to date and I attend a training to improve my traffic. After all, without traffic, who the heck will buy my products?

So far, when in a predicament, presented with what seems monumental problem, Wealthy Affilate and its members have been able to offer THE SOLUTION. I expect this will continue to be the case and I urge each of you to keep this in mind.

KEEP ENCOURAGING EACH OTHER.

KEEP OFFERING A HELPING HAND.

KEEP CREATING CONTENT.

STAY FOCUSED ON THE SOLUTION.

ALWAYS.

Let's take over the internet friends.

Hey Ash. That's a bit disappointing especially as you put so much work into the comment.

I feel the best way to go in this situation is for the person receiving the comment to approve it via WA and if they really don't like it then just delete it via the Wordpress interface.

That way you maintain your 100% rate and they can lose the offending comment.

I only disapprove via the WA interface if the comment is obviously spam. I received one comment where the user had just spun the text of an existing comment - made no sense.

Disapproved and reported.

That happened twice actually. Some people really try it on but you, I feel, are not one of those people!

That sucks you got that kinda feedback Ash, I too had this happen to me for the very first time just recently too-so I understand the frustration of losing that 100% :-(

Much like you, I had taken the time to not only read the post asked about, but everything on their site, provided really positive, reassuring and complimentary comments, discussing the topic in question and was rejected and told this was 'feedback not a site comment' lol.

I like that African proverb too, that's so on point! I agree too-why waste time creating problems when you can instead choose to be part of the solution, "be the change you wish to see in the world" & also agree with Jeff, there's always one!

Although frustrating, at least you're not letting it slow you down or hold you back. In my humble opinion, if someone like you is gonna leave one of your thorough & thoughtful comments, just to have it thrown back-that ONLY says something about them & their character, not yours.

Peace (especially to the haters!).

Hi Ash
I think you know the answer is not to let it bother you and just keep going. That has happened to most of us I'm sure and when it happens the first time we are likely to have the same reaction you did.
One problem is that people don't select the subject category for their posts. Or the category is broad but their desire for comments is very narrow.
One of my peeves is these weird sites that crop up on the Site Comments from time to time, with a post that is a few sentences long or less and you are asked to discuss or give an experience or an opinion. You are basically being asked to leave a comment that is far longer than the post itself.
I think we all just have to accept that a success rate of over 90 or 95% means pretty much the same thing. I had one rejected recently and the justification was that my comment was more or less too generic for the site. Whatever.
As for criticizing because your comment was what, too specific, or not believable. Frankly, I would suggest we occasionally step outside of our WA echo chamber and go and read some comments on other sites outside our community. A good friend of mine has been writing a travel site in the UK for many years and gets comments from genuine regulars who read and are very interested in his posts. The comments are usually single sentence one-liners or just a few words.
Anyway, keep going as I'm sure you will :-)
Best regards
Andy

Thanks Andy! I agree with you and I will continue moving forward. I just had a feeling others had experienced the same thing so I felt like commiserating for a minute. I turned my post around at the end so it provided at least some value to members! Sometimes using the give and take comment thread is a better way to go anyway!

This might help you give a high-quality site comment

Thanks, I have a very high approval rating and I know I leave very high quality comments, but thanks, I am sure some people could really benefit from the link you provided.

Don’t sweat the small stuff. It has happened to most people here probably. Well it has happened to me anyway. Trying to give a good review or advice only to be kicked out of the classroom. Then I got spammed by a religious nut , 3 pages of total garbage posted on a reply to my website..lol. Delete…
Also, thanks I never knew that was an African proverb. Heard it many times though…
Keep writing…

Stephen

Thanks Stephen. That quote has been written multiples ways and attributed to different authors, but the one I included is supposedly an African proverb. Who knows! I will always keep writing. Thanks for the comment
