I have been working my butt off in the last two months to put together something I am proud to call mine. Here is it: https://syringestosobriety.com

Yes, it is in the addiction niche and many of you are thinking, "meh, not really my thing.." I challenge you to keep reading.

You may not think these issues concern you at this moment in time. Sorry to be blunt, but you are wrong. Unfortuantely, too many people ignore this issue until someone they care about starts to struggle with detox or legal problems, or God forbid, loses their life to an overdose.

You may choose to believe no one you know abuses drugs. Sorry to say, you are wrong. More likely than not, at least one person you know is struggling with drugs and is really good at hiding it.

Walk around the mall for an hour and look around you. Guaranteed, in that hour, you will pass by, even smile at, at least 3 people hiding a substance issue they struggle with. It could be your sister, could be your doctor, could be you. Substance abuse issues do not discriminate.

Focusing on Content

Yes, my ultimate goal is to make money with an online business, but I have decided to focus on creating a website that is engaging, informative, and unique before one that makes money.

Some have expressed gratitude, after reading my articles, that I am not trying to sell them on a certain treatment program. Instead, they were able to learn something important without being sold something. I was happy to hear this because I believe one treatment does not fit all. I would rather my site gives substance abusers information on all the options that are out there. This creates more opportunity for recovery.
I constantly ask for feedback from other bloggers and online business owners so I can constantly improve my site. A handful of people have told me they appreciate my posts and can really hear my voice shine through when reading my articles. I love hearing this because it means I am doing something right.
I have also focused on making my content engaging and fun to read. After all, with a niche like addiction recovery, posts can get emotional and intense. I make it a point to include humor, as I believe a recovering user has to be able to laugh at themselves. Without this type of positive energy, my site would start to look very dark.

The hard work, hours and hours of writing, I have spent putting together my site has not paid off monetarily yet. I hope that focusing on helping and staying true to my beliefs will pay off in the end. We will see.

FUTURE GOALS

Eventually, if I start making an income, I would like to be able to help others start their own business online, specifically recovering drug users or felons. Felons, even those with simple drug charges, have a very hard time finding employment. If i can make this work for me, then I can inspire others to follow suit. .

I am considering starting a section on the site for reviews of sober living houses in my area. However, a recent law has been passed in my state restricting payment for referrals to rehab and sober living. So, this will be strictly informational.

I plan to experiment with reveiwing some books I found helpful in my recovery. This may be an avenue to income.

If anyone has any ideas on monetizing SOME of my content, please feel free to comment! It would be a dream to be able to cut back on hours at work and focus more attention on building this business.

Reversing an Epidemic

I strongly believe recovering users, like myself, hold the knowledge necessary to reverse the opioid epidemic plaguing our country today. We are the real experts on substance abuse and recovery from substance abuse. Unfortunately, our voices have not been loud enough, YET, to make an impact.
