Wheat: Unhealthy after all these years.

While typically promoted as a "heart-healthy" choice for humans, wheat is one of the worst foods we humans can consume for an increasingly dizzying array of reasons. Lately, more & more people, & even Nations, are turning away from this staple-of-modern-diets as the studies repeatedly show negative & down-right dangerous outcomes attributed to it's ingestion. While it may fight off starvation, it in turn contributes to Obesity, Diabetes, Cardiovascular and Celiac Disease & a bunch more nasty little ailments. Turns out that when contemplating the health ramifications of that bacon cheddar triple cheeseburger, the worst layer is the bun!

I have recently written an article on StreetArticles & have added a new post on my healthyvolve.com website to bring attention to this pernicious little ingredient. Let me know what ya think, if ya have a minute to spare. Or sign up, on the website, for what I am going to limit to a not more than 1/month email notification. (well, if i set it up properly that is, let me know if problems there, too "-) Either way, Food 4 Thought. & Thank U for your Time.

Hello 3three3....Nice read. I am on the fence regarding wheat and wheat products. I am an organic fanatic...and I have been for years. I do not use wheat products too much. I think that is the big difference. People eat way too much of it. If consumed only on occasion....it's probably not horrible for us...unless we have a digestion disorder. Which I will be writing about on my website....because I did have several disorders. I am happy to say that I healed myself. This is a very thought provoking blog...and thank you for posting! *Melanie*

Thanks for the reply. So glad to hear you have healed your disorders. Many of the ailments we folks suffer nowadays can indeed be remedied or avoided by simple food choices only requiring a little extra thought on our parts. Unfortunately, the path of least resistance is often too alluring (& tasty).

Hello. I have known for quite a while that wheat is disastrous to our health - even if you are in supposedly 'perfect' health. I recently had an argument with my family over the fact that wheat and grains are not as healthy as they are brainwashed to believe. Perhaps I should show them your article! I really loved it. I have found that once you can turn off that 'switch' for wanting wheat and other grains it's remarkably easy to walk to a grocery store and see those products as nothing more than bags and boxes of rocks. Thank you for posting this information :)

Thanks for the response. Indeed, show them the post ( the rest of the healthYvolve site) I would certainly not mind ;-) & if they are open to more comprehensive information, I would strongly recommend a couple of books on the topic:

"Grain Brain: The Surprising Truth about Wheat, Carbs, and Sugar--Your Brain's Silent Killers", by David Perlmutter, MD

"Wheat Belly: Lose the Wheat, Lose the Weight, and Find Your Path Back to Health", by William Davis, MD

& I agree, once you see things for what they are, they lose their appeal. I now see all these corn syrup sweetened wheat flour products as tasty little bites of unhealthy consequences better left on the shelves than poisoning my bloodstream.

Health science is always changing. Smoking and pork used to be good for you too. Running as an exercise has received a lot of criticism as of late, and the proper form for a squat changed a few years ago. It's hard to keep up with all this stuff, lol.

Thanks for your words. While it's not the science that is changing, rather the interpretations & understandings, Your point is well taken. Science is a best-conclusion-based-on-available-data exercise. And while it is the self-correcting mechanism inherent in the scientific method that makes it so beautiful & reliable, it is the ever increasing breadth of the unknown that this constant investigation reveals that is most frustrating to many. Hard to keep up, indeed but well worth the effort as long as one is open to new notions, yet not totally gullible.
