Software? I don't need Software, do I?
IS SOFTWARE A NECESSITY WHEN YOU START A HOME-BASED BUSINESS?
I DON’T KNOW! Well, actually I DO know – my answer would be YES – unless you prefer to keep all your receipts in a shoe box under your bed and hand them to your accountant come tax time.
The simple answer is that if only to track your income and expenses for your home-based business, a computer program is the easiest form of tracking all those numbers.
Other than that shoe box, of course!
But the box-stuffed-with-receipts approach doesn’t make your task of doing your taxes any easier – you’ll still have to sort them into their different categories to determine your net income for the year.
A simple spreadsheet program can track your income and all those expenses. Depending on the complexity of your home-based business you may want more capabilities than a simple spreadsheet program can offer.
Software exists that can turn your computer into a PBX Call Centre. But I’m fairly certain that wasn’t your choice for a business start-up. But perhaps you’ve chosen internet marketing as your focus, and there are many software applications that can help you keep track of what your making, what your spending, and even how many calories you burnt thinking up and then typing that last blog!
Over the course of the coming weeks, I’ll look more closely at a few different types of software that may benefit you in your home-based business. If you have any suggestions or comments or want feedback on a particular software program you’re using let me know, and I’ll do my best to answer you in an upcoming blog.

In the beginning, good old Excel will go a long ways. It's all I plan to use, at least until I break even covering the cost of WA and Jaxxy annual.
I know there is business software out there, but I prefer a good, old-fashioned Excel spreadsheet for most tasks.
That's right Carla and Excel is a great tool, as would be the other components of an office suite. But you have to pay for the privilege of using that particular software.
You know i was just thinking about that a few days ago, When i do actually make some money i know I'm gonna have to deal with Uncle Sam, So thank you for sharing:)
Perfect. It is on my to-do-list............... 458 probably! Can't wait for the follow-up 1sourcebiz
I like this post. Its very easy to get caught in bells and whistles when starting out. This has happened to me in the past. Sometimes too much software can decrease productivity.

Libreoffice is a good alternative to Excel if you don't need the bells and whistles. Its open source and free to download and use.It may be of use to those not able to afford Excel meantime. I use it all the time.
